| From what I observed, a strong factor in doing well in engineering is high school preparation. During high school, I really did not focus too much on getting a perfect 4.0(I would've liked to), so thats why I challenged myself with more difficult classes(Usually taking 2 or more science APs at a time). This may not seem like much, but if you are going into engineering school, preparation is very important IMO.
Many large engineering schools admit many students who are not prepared to take the courses offered because they only see the GPA and test scores. They do not see what you actually know and how well you can learn. Because of this, plenty of first year students are overwhelmed because they have to take math, science, and possibly other technical prerequisites at the same time. The biggest problem is that large public universities with very good engineering schools accept a lot of students, and the large student body simply cannot keep up with the course difficulty.
I felt that I was bery well prepared for engineering school. I go to Umich. My current GPA in college is higher than it was in high school. It also helps if you are better at more analytical thinking.
