I think the most concise description of Mechatronics is that it is the integration of mechanical, electrical and computer engineering (Yes, this means robotics). Also, whether you can graduate with a degree in Mechatronics or simply an option in Mechatronics depends on the university you attend. I am currently studying Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo and will graduate with a degree in Mechatronics. From talking to friends in other programs I believe our studies are quite similar to those of mechanical engineers but also include a great deal of programming and electrical engineering courses. For example, this term my classes were electric circuits, programming, calculus, physics, materials science and an elective. I believe the mechanical engineers studied calculus (same material as us), programming (an easier programming course that my class took last semester), materials science (I believe they covered alittle bit more material than us), physics and I don't know what their other course was. I would highly recommend taking a Mechatronics program at any school as, in my opinion, it allows you to work in many more fields than mechanical, computer or electrical engineering could ever allow.
