Hi, I am a sophmore entering my 2nd semester at Rutgers university. Im currently in the school of engineering and am working towards a bachelors in biomed engineering. I was looking for some information on the classes linear algebra and multi variable calculus. I am planning on taking them both next semester and was wondering if this is a good idea. Any information on the toughness of the courses or general guidance would be appreciated.

They're completely different courses, so taking them together wouldn't be an issue (my roommate did it last year and did fine). Linear algebra is extremely theoretical, while mutivar is an extension of 2-D calculus. There's a rumor flying around that you'll be good at only one of the two and stink at the other, but that's just ridiculous =P.

It seems to depend on the school. With some schools lin alg is extremely theoretical and is the more difficult subject and Calc III isn't that bad. At my school it seems the roles are reversed where lin alg is kind of easy and I hear Calc III is a real pain.

I think linear algebra is a bit easier than Calc III but I suppose it depends on who is teaching it and how they are teaching it. If you had no trouble at with calculus, you will have no trouble with multivariable calculus. The hard math classes start after these two. These two are fine.
