My intended major is computer science. How important is it that the degree be ABET accredited? It looks a lot of schools don't bother, implying that it is not so important.

Exactly what does accreditation do? I specifically ask about ABET because it seems to be the largest, but are there other accrediting organizations? It is important that the degree at least be accredited by some organization? Or is that not a consideration at all?

Help would be appreciated, thanks.

Should've done my research. I'll post my findings so others asking the same question will have easy access to the information.

ABET accreditation is important for being a Professional Engineer and stuff like that. Less applicable to CS because you don't need a profesional license.
ABET is starting accreditation for CS programs, but the process is just starting so most schools don't have it.
