AP Chemistry or AP Environmental

This is my first time posting on this site and I need some help picking a class for Junior year. In Honors Bio freshmen year, I fought for an A- and in Honors Chem this year I am getting a solid A. I have no plans to go into a science field when I get out of college. I am pretty good at math and science, but it does not interest me.

My choices are Honors Physics (which I don't want to take because it is not AP), AP Bio (which I don't want to take because I really did not like Freshman H. Bio and it is the same teacher), AP Chem (which i hear is hard), and AP Environmental Science (which people say is a lot of memorization, but overall easy and I am somewhat interested).

Which class would you recommend? I'm leaning AP Environmental because it is easier, but I may enjoy AP Chem more, but I am really sort of lost.

Junior Year Grades

They say junior year is both the toughest and most important year; however, for me it has certainly been brutal. This has been extremely evident in my grades.

Prior to junior year, I had gotten straight A's in my eight classes, was top of the class, took the hardest courses, dedicated myself to several clubs, competed in a fair state and national competitions, and did sports year round. I had done a fair amount of public speaking, organizing events, (and though it little matters to colleges, another sport: competitive rock climbing).

Now, that that has changed due to myriad causes, I am lost as to what colleges I still can get into. First semester, I had received 2 B's, which wasn't terribly bad. However, this year, while I am still likely to pull 4 or 5 A's possibly more, I am also likely to receive one or two C's.

Perchance, do other people have similar experiences and would like to share how they had handled them? Or, possibly where I still fall on the college scale?

Using tests to supplement transcript

First off it should be known that I was homeschooled k-12 and have quote on quote "graduated". I've also taken the GED and passed with a score that gives me a top 10% national class rank. (If that matters, I don't know.) I'm now seriously thinking about going to college next year, however, after comparing the typical high school core curriculum to what I’ve done I feel ill prepared and I’m kind of freaking out. I’m a little worried that my plan to go to a good university all four years will have to be altered to attending community college for two years and transferring in order to make up for my skimpy transcript. For instance, I haven’t taken two years of a foreign language. My parents tried to get me to learn Spanish with Rosetta Stone but I didn’t really like the learning style they use. On top of that my English and science learning can’t really be summed up to specific course titles. Most of my would be high school science courses were taken during middle school. Honestly, my parents chose my curriculum to prepare me in passing the GED instead of catering my courses after what would make me most attractive to colleges.

Now my question is, can I take CLEP and SAT Subjects tests in order to supplement my wimpy transcript? If not what can I do to be more college material? Also is it acceptable to put my transcript in subject form and not mention what grade I took it in in order to cover up the fact that most of my English and science learning were done during my “extended senior year”?

Please excuse the Minor spelling errors, and grammatical problems. I'm sending this on my phone.

I'm really smart, I can do many things that a lot of people can't figure out, I never use pencil and paper and I can read faster then most people in my class and retain information. I live in Texas and have scored perfect, if not, a little less then on my state tests every year.

The problem its I didn't see the point in passing the first time when I could take the class online in a week at longest and still get the credit, so my gpa is sitting a little under a two on the four point scale.

I want to be a lawyer, or a shrink. But I don't have the grades, I moved a few months ago and i'm making straight a's now, my mentality has changed.

I know i'm smart enough to get where I want to, but I've made some bad decisions, do what can I do?

American School student - In dire need of help.

(I know this is a lot of information, but I'd seriously appreciate as much help as I could possibly get. I'm very ignorant and worried to the whole College life.)

Hi all, I'm looking for some very much needed help. I'm enrolled in The American School of Correspondence - (Accredited High School Diploma and Distance Education with American School (http://americanschoolofcorr.com)) - and I'm looking for some help with a few college questions.

This program is an accredited school to my knowledge, but nobody in my family has ever aspired to achieve an education, so I don't know how well they can understand the program.

1 - Does anybody else use/know of others that use this program? If so, is this something I can expect to get into a decent university with? (Texas University)

I plan to go to Texas State University, I'm making all A's/B's so far. I'm not sure if this will allow me to get in or not. I know SAT scores reflect admission too, I'm aiming as high as possible but in actuality I only expect myself to get 1200-1400. I'm not the best exam taker. (I'm going to take the ACT too but don't expect to score any higher).

2 - I'm really worried because I was looking at CollegeData information, and this is the required units for TX State:

English 4
Mathematics 4
Science 3
Foreign Language 2
Social Studies 3.5
History no required
Academic Electives	3.5

Here's my courses I'll be completing:

American Literature
British Literature
Career, Planning Your
Ess Math II
Geometry
Physiology
Physics
Practical English
Psychology
Social Civics (Gov)
Spanish 1
Spanish 2
Und English 2 (1st Sem)
Und English 2 (2nd Sem)
English IV
United States History
Economics (1/2 credit)
Earth Science
Algebra 2
Calculus

(I already have these classes from before I was enrolled into home school I was at a high school:)
Biology
Algebra 1
Webmastering (Elective in 8th grade, highschool credit)
BCIS (Elective, freshman year)
P.E. (Elective, freshman year)

So I'm not sure whether or not I have a shot at Texas State. The school doesn't consider EC's in the admission according to CollegeData, so that's good.

I just don't know much about this program, I'm very very worried that I'm doing something wrong and setting myself up for failure. I'd appreciate any help possible. Thank you all.

How are homeschool transcripts evaluated!

Hey all! I'll be applying to college in the fall and I was wondering how do college admissions evaluate homeschool transcripts. I'm not really sure what exactly they look for since I don't have a traditional transcript, but from my research what I have so far is:

Unofficial transcript
Curriculum outline/Examination methods
SAT scores
SAT subject test scores
ACT
Portfolio of work (can anyone who has submitted one enlighten me on what they put in theirs? Should I include the exams I took as a homeschooler or do I just put in 'outstanding' pieces of work that I would like colleges to look at?)
DSST scores (I'd have liked to take AP but I'm homeschooling overseas and AP exams are $550 per, so...)
Resume (ECs, volunteer work, personal projects, part time jobs etc)
Reading lists
Teacher recs

Do I need to justify why I chose homeschooling in an additional essay?

Please do tell me if anyone has been through this process and can help me :) I'm really interested to know if anyone on CC has been able to enhance their application by adding something really unique to their application :)

Also, how are homeschool transcripts evaluated? Are they seen as no different from public school transcripts as long as I justify my curriculum to have academic levels on par with normal schools? Or would I have to submit additional material in order for my transcript to be evaluated?

Sorry, but I'm just so worried about college admissions and I'm scared I won't get in so I'm trying to prepare the best application packets I can! I went to the US Education Center in the country I'm staying in now and they basically told me that as a homeschooler I had no hope of getting into a Tier 1 university! ):

Thanks guys :)

Hi everybody~
I feel that I'm a year behind in math (due to a series of unfortunately placed moves and vacations) and to catch up, I'm determined to take an Algebra 2 class over the summer. For reasons unknown to me, my district has decided not to fund this specific class, so summer school is no longer an option. Can anybody recommend an online school (preferably on the cheaper side) that offers single (summer) courses, and that I can still apply to(do they have deadlines or limited space)?
Thanks a bunch!

Hey guys! I really want to apply to good schools, but I'm a US citizen being homeschooled abroad so it's caused me some problems!

My GPA's about 3.9, should stay the same by the time I 'graduate', and I've been studying the AP curriculum, but I can't take the AP exam because where I live, it costs $550 per exam (idk why, maybe cause they have to send it internationally or smth...) and I can't afford that :/ I did note on my transcript that I did study kind of the AP curriculum, but I guess when you're a homeschooled student colleges place more emphasis on standardized testing right? I did take the SATs (1470/2120) and I'm going to take SAT II's in June.

I'm just wondering if not taking the AP exams will seriously hurt my admission chances, and also because I've read that colleges look for students who take the most rigorous courseload possible, and since on a homeschool transcript apparently I can't declare an AP course, will my courseload be considered rigorous then?

I have pretty good ec's (national/district awards) and a few other awards, and a couple of international-level awards, and lots of community service, if it counts as a hook I'm asian.

Anybody think it's realistic for me to be applying to schools like NYU (stern) or UMich (ross)?

THANKS :D

THANKS :D
