Acheivers Summer Academy (precollege) at IU

My d is completing her freshman year of HS this year. I noticed on IU's website that they have a precollege program open to all incoming freshman, sophomores, and juniors (she will be a sophomore).

They spend 5 days on the IU campus taking academic classes in math, english, critical thinking. They live in the dorm for those days and also take SAT prep classes. They also have recreational time that introduces them to the IU campus and the Bloomington area (things like bowling, etc).

We are strongly considering applying for this opportunity for our daughter this summer. We think the SAT prep would be good for her prior to taking the PSAT. Also, it would be a good way to introduce her to a state school. We also thought about holding off a year, but figure she will have a job the summer between her 10th and 11th grade years and it would be harder for her to take a whole week off to do something like this.

Has anyone either gone through this or sent dd or ds through it? Would really like opinions on if the timing is right and if it would be a good investment.

Am i good enough to get in to Kelley direct if i petitioned?

Direct admission requires
"# ACT composite score of 29 or SAT composite of 1270 (including only math and critical reading sections)
# Top 10 percent of high school class or 3.7 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) "

I have a 1340 Sat..and 3.66 GPA...so would petitioning get me in?

Grad students teaching classes?

Just wondered if anyone could enlighten me on your knowledge as regards how many classes are taught by undergrads at IU?

I ask because I now have 5 months to ponder this good, inexpensive in-state University, versus an expensive elite school for my D. If she is accepted elsewhere, I know the decision time is short and I'm trying to pre-answer all our questions. I've heard much talk about how often elite schools use their grad students to teach many of the first two years' undergrad classes. I'm hearing it happens less frequently at public schools. But I'm sure it varies TREMENDOUSLY by school and subject matter.

Who has the scoop?

FYI...She will probably be in the College of Arts and Sciences (probably philosophy and/or physics), and she'll be in HCC if that matters (I know they're offered SOME smaller classes for certain studies, etc.).

Thanks!
