I just received an email stating that I am missing materials and to fax them.
Anybody else receive this?
I am missing, according to the email, my transcript and my test scores, which is strange because my transcript was sent along with my recommendations. I hope this won't be a problem :/ I am getting them faxed on Monday

Okay...so my academic record is wacky. I have NO idea what Penn (or any school really...) will think about it.
here it is!
Grades:
9th grade: I got As/A-s in all my classes except for B+'s Freshman Bio, Music Theory, and Art
10th grade: I got straight As.
11th grade: straight As with an A- in art
12th grade: currently straight As

That means my GPA is:
3.5ish for Freshman year
then a 4.0
4.0
4.0
3.83 gpa
Decent right? Well, think again...unfortunately I go to a super competitive private school that ranks for no reason whatsoever so I'm ranked 10/50. That's a problem.

My test scores are wacky too!!! Oh, joy...
ACT: 34 reading, 36 english, 32 math, 29 science---33 composite
SAT: 680 CR, 780 Math, 760 Writing--2220 total

My SAT reading is low, but ACT reading is high and my SAT math is high but my ACT math is lower.

How are colleges (including Penn) going to look at all of this stuff? I'm obviously concerned with my rank, but really, do I look competent enough?

Does it matter if you got a D that counts as an A?

Do High Schools calculate GPA and send it to the colleges, or do colleges calculate it on their own? Here's the situation:

I'll probably get a D in Honors Algebra 2/Trig after today's test. Theoretically, I could get a C, but there's not a huge difference between the two anyway since they're both horrid. If I get a C, then I can't re-take the class. If I get a D, then I can re-take the class and have it count as an A, even though it will still show up on my transcript.

So my high school will list my GPA as like a 3.9 unweighted, 4.75 weighted, Valedictorian (Likely).

But I'll have a D on my transcript.

Or is rank much more important than GPA?

Just out of curiosity, does the term "Quaker" have anything to do with oatmeal ? For some reason I think it does. When I hear the word Quaker i instantaneously think about oatmeal. I think the most famous oatmeal brand is called Quaker oats or something like that if I am not mistaken. What in the world would Quakers have to do with oatmeal anyways ? Seems like a weird name for a company.

I know that the term probably has more to do with the progressive Quaker religious movement more than anything else, since (I believe) Philly had strong Quaker roots back in the day.
