Hey all,

I am a junior at a regular ABET-accredited state university. I have a 3.5 gpa and I am also a member of Steel Bridge Team, Chi Epsilon Honors Sociey, ASCE (obviously), and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. I have no internship experience (hopefully this coming summer) nor do I have any research experience (I wish). I would like to know if I have any chance at the following grad schools.

Carnegie Mellon
Purdue
Northwestern
U. of Wisconsin - Madison
Cornell
UCSD
Rensselaer Polytech

I know this is very ambitious. This might be waaaay over my head so don't be afraid to make fun of me. Please answer honestly - your feedback will be VERY helpful. I know it hurts my chances not having any expereince outside the classroom. If I am not a strong enough candidate could you please refer me to some more fitting universities and/or tell me what I would need to do in the next few semsters to have a chance.

I hope this question is not too outrageuos.

Thanks in advance!

Chances to get into Grad school WITHOUT paying outta pocket

I'm a senior at Iowa State University, I want to go to grad school (M.S.)

Qualificaitons:

3.35 GPA....deans list last two years : )
2 summer internships
Grader for thermodynamics

Desired Schools:

just PURDUE really....

I have two questions
1. What are my chances of getting into Purdue AND not having to pay for tuition/living/food
2. Do Engineering M.S. students with Teaching assistantships (not RA's) end up paying out of pocket for schools like Mich, Purdue, Ga. Tech, Wisc, U of Minn, U of Ill...

I really want to go to Purdue because it's like ISU on steroids...there's other schools (mich, wisc, minn) but there just 'different'...I'm looking for a school where if u pick up a rock and throw it u'll hit an engineer, where the town is small and boring but the people are friendly and u don't have to worry bout stuff....

Which grad schools do I have a shot with?

I am about ready to apply for grad school but I want to see if these schools are reasonable. I have a 3.23 GPA in EE at an ABET-accredited program (this will go up after this semester as I have straight As this semester so far, but they won't look at these last two semester, right?), I did a co-op at IBM and designed a hardware tool that has full support of a IBM WorldWide Design Center, and I would say that I have quite a bit of hardware/software experience on my resume so far. I haven't taken my GRE yet.

Supposing the GRE goes decently (hoping for a 700-800 quant score), is it reasonable to apply to these schools: University of Minnesota, Iowa State, Ohio State? What are some good schools that I might have a shot at?

I heard that it helps to try to contact a professor from a grad school in the area of your interest, and that can help your acceptance chances. However, I also heard that the professor will most likely just tell you to apply online anyway. Any thoughts on this?

EE and Business

I've been having some difficulty choosing schools with a good engineering program(degrees up to phD) with a good business program. Because I'm still on the edge between the two majors, I would prefer the school that I am applying to, to have a nationally ranked, or nationally recognized engineering and business programs.

So far I have...
Stanford
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Cornell

I'm hoping to have at least 3 high reaches and 3 middle. I have already decided on my safeties.

Any other schools that should go on?
