D3 Coaches Contact with swimmers

I have a question, or maybe a concern.

I have a club/high swimmer who has qualified for Junior Nationals. Our swimmer's former club coach is now an assistant at an excellent D3 school. This coach has volunteered to coach our swimmer at Junior Nationals instead of the new head coach. Our swimmer is a Junior in H.S.

I am concerned of NCAA recruitment/eligiblity issues.

Can anyone help?

Soft vs. Hard Sport

What are considered soft or hard sports at college? Are they different for men or women? Are they different depending on the college designation: D1, D2, D3?

Who Gets A Likey Letter?

I've browsed through this forum a little bit but haven't really seen the answer to my question...

I was just wondering who necessarily gets a likely letter? Are athletes only to get one if they are being heavily recruited by other competing schools? Or only if the AO does not think that they would be able to get in regular/early decision?

I am curious to see under what circumstances a likely letter is given vs a coach's support in the regular/early admissions pool.

Thanks! I appreciate your time.

D3 Soccer Walk on

My son is getting phone calls from coaches finally after all hard works.

So question is : Does he need to commit the coach before 4/01? He is applying RD. We feel financial aid package should be part of equation to decide which school to go next year.

If my son is holding the decision until 4/1, Does that mean all slots could have been taken and no more walk on the team any more for D3 if we wait that long?
