County Winner of the Optimist Oratorical Competition (2006)
-Invited Presenter at the North Carolina Poetry Society Statewide Annual Meeting, recited my poem, Math, published in North Carolina Poetry Society’s book Bay Leave

anything else that could help me:
-My dad is Puerto Rican, so I can put hispanic down on my forms. But I'm not bilingual and it's not like I have dual citizenship anywhere so I'm not sure if this matters.
-My mom attended Vassar but had to transfer due to family problems.

Chance me Spring Transfer 10

Hey everbody. I applied for spring transfer at Vassar. I know this a little bit late but just wanted to know your opinion. Yes, I am aware that admission to Vassar is crazy low. Either way I'm hoping for my little Christmas miracle lol. Here are my stats:

My Stats:

Ethnicity: Hispanic/Puerto Rican
Major: Political Science/Government
Standing: Junior
College GPA: 3.88
Credits: 63
Courses:

Spring Semester 08 (All core curriculum classes)
*Spanish 1 (In PR this is our primary language)- B
*Writing and Literature aka English level 2- A (This is an advance class)
*Appreciation of Art 300 level- A
*Computer Literacy 100 level- A
*Dimensions of Contemporary Ethics 400 level- A
*Religion 100 level- A

Summer
*Spanish 2- B
*Quality of Life 300 level (Sorta like a mix between PE and Biology)- A

Fall Semester 08
*Intro to Poli Sci 100 level- A
*United States Government 200 level- A
*Global Society 300 level- A
*Science, technology and environment 200 level- A

Spring Semester 09
*Political Research 400 level- A
*Middle East Politics 300 level- A
*Classical Political Thought 400 level- A
*Constitutional Law 400 level-A
*Contemporary and Modern Civilization 300 level- A

EC's

President and founder of Universitario Pasandola Sanamente (A organization promoting an alternative healthy way of college life)
Editor-in-chief and founder of the first and only bilingual newspaper in my University
Vice President of the Honor Program
Dean's List
Outstanding Leadership Award in the Honor and International Studies Program
I was a participator in the 17th International Youth Leadership Conference in Prague. (Very selective only 80 were chosen of 1500+ student who applied worldwide)
I was chosen to become part of the exclusive Civics International Czech Leadership Alumni Associates (They chose a group of 70 students who were the most promising and ambitious future leaders that have attended all of Civic Concepts International's conference. That's over 2000 alumni)
Member of Puerto Rico Students for Statehood Association
Rose Angels of Puerto Rico volunteer

High School GPA: 3.30
SAT: 1340/2400 (AWFUL I KNOW)
AP: English 4 and Math 4 (This APs are specifically made for Puerto Rico)
Honors: High School Spelling Bee Champion
First place in school-wide essay competition
Third place in Oratory Competition

Essays: I wrote about my experience in an international conference. How that experience awoke an interest in international relations and how my university doesn't offer many courses in that area. Then I wrote how Vassar will give me what I'm looking for and I ended ...and that's a fact (an allusion to a video Vassar has asking its students facts about Vassar). I've been told by other cc's here that they were great :D
LOR: I sent two, both from my Poli Sci professors. They both put me in top 1% in everything. One even said that out of the 18 years he as been teaching he has only encountered 4 students of my caliber. All of them lawyers, and one passed the bar exam with a perfect score (and it was his first try).

What are my chances?

Need to know if applying is worth it.

Ok, here I go. Please give me your advice and be honest, I can take it. I also am expecting that my GPA will prevent me from getting into the colleges I want, namely Vassar. I am also looking for input on my chances at Mcgill, Tufts, Bates, Colby

GPA 3.1
SAT's:2260

SAT II's - Not sure as of yet, but I expect them to be very high
Classes: Honors English and History for 4 year. Accelerated Sciences. Low level math and Spanish. No APs.

Recommendations- Very Good
Essay- In my opinion, extremely good

Extracurriculars-
Two year Speech and Debate President
Editor for School Paper
Writer for School Paper
Procter
Wrestling (10 Years)
Frisbee (3 Years) -Captain
Conservation Community Service Work
Political Campaigning all summer
Model UN -Rarely Participate

Awards:
Two Year Public Forum Debate Nationals Qualifier
4th in PF sophomore and Junior year in Massachusetts state Debate tournament
Princeton National Debate Tournament Champion
Yale National Debate Tournament Quarterfinalist
Winner of 6 Local/regional debate tournament
1st place in a regional Speech tournament
Ranked 9th in New England for Speech and Debate
4 time New England Junior Prep Champion in wrestling (5-8th grade) Should I include this in my application.
Winner of 3 different Regional type Varsity Wrestling Tournaments (sophomore year)
Winner of Divisional Wrestling Tournament (junior year)
Winner of School Film festival 2009

(OTHER)
Both my Mother and Grandmother (who was a widely respected debater at Vassar) went to Vassar. Many other members of my family on my mother side went to Vassar as well. I could also probably give an extremely convincing interview.

I am aware that most of the schools I want to get into are reaches and that my transcript is typical of the slacker type that many schools try to avoid. Through my essay, however, I paint an image of one who has overcome great adversity and is able to excel in those subjects that interest him. On my transcript I have done extremely well in all of my high level, difficult classes while doing poorly in lower level classes. I hope that this affirms the image I am trying to project. Any ideas on my chances at Vassar would be greatly appreciated.

PS: I will most likely be submitting a video portfolio as part of my applications. The videos in it are very good and have won some awards at local and distant film festivals.

Thank you for any comments you may leave.
