Fit Or Parsons

Which One is BETTER 4 Fashion?

I keep hearing FIT, but then Parsons has turned out some great American Designers, who gives the best opportunity from these two?

i think theyre both excellent but FIT may have a tiny edge in prestige. either way, both are amazing schools for fashion.

Parsons vs Fit

Parsons is a private school and costs alot more than FIT, but more people from parsons have gone on to be famous :
Marc JACOBS
Donna KARAN
Anna SUI
Isaac MIZRAHI etc.
and Parsons offers a 'fashion critic' program which enables the graduating students to work directly with lead designers like Michael Kors etc.
And Parsons will not accept transfer students from FIT..ever..
At parsons the students work their asses off....its probably why it has the most suicidal deaths than any other college...
But I reccomend Parsons...
because you get so many imortant people watching your graduation show..really important people that you need to make a breakthrough in the industry : contacts are everything in fashion!
The only other school that's equally good to parsons is probably Central Saint Martins in London they've produced people like:
Akexander MCQUEEN
Stella MCARTNEY
Hussein CHALAYAN etc.
Hussein Chalayan used rotting clothes for his graduation show immediatly getting the public's eye...
Parsons all the way....

thank you!

I've been doing some (well a little bit) of research on the 2 known fashion schools....F.I.T and Parsons, i've graduated from F.i.T so i know how the school, the students and the teachers behave.....and i just wanted to see someone's opinion on Parsons....

oh yeah so i've been doing research cuz i'm thinking of going back to school for fashion....and personally i don't have time or the money to mess around....so like i said i've been to FIT, i mayjored in illustration and toy design......and personally to me SOME of the students there are a bunch of snot nosed little *****es......like a lot of them thought they were still in high school so they pull that "i'm so awsome and your so lame" crap wit me and ya know that can really get in the way learning....

Oh yeah and some of the teachers were pretty ****ty to.....some were so old they fall alseep in class or are so crazy ya can't understand what hell they want form ya or they didn't know how to teach a class.....FIT is an okay school but it's on the bottom of my list now.

FIT or Parson's?

I am wondering which school has a better rep in the fashion industry? I have been accepted to the Fashion Merchandising Mgmt major at FIT and the BBA in Design& Management at Parson's. Now, I'm just trying to decide between the two... if anyone has any advice or has attended either info would be awesome

Is there any official listing of the top 10 Fashion schools in the US and Europe? This way it will easier to judge which one is better. I had applied to both Parsons and FIT. Got into Parsons, still waiting for FIT Decision.

What did you submitt in your portfolio for Parsons? My daughter will be applying in a year and we are preparing her with lots of drawing courses. Since you were admitted, i am curius what you submitted to both Parsons and FIT. Were the portfolios different for each school?

Parsons not only denies transfers from F.I.T but anywhere. It's impossible because their course is very very different from anywhere else.

And each school is good, but in the end, it just depends on your own talent. Just because you graduate from Parsons, doesn't guarantee you a job with Micheal Kors.
You have to work hard at it.

F.I.T is also a good school and the reason people will sometimes pick that over Parsons, is because of the price. It's half the price of Parsons and offers very good resources in Fashion.

From a friend who goes to Parsons, she says it's very tough. Many many many people drop out, and the graduating class for Fashion in Parsons I think goes from like a couple hundred in freshman year, to 20 something in graduating year. Students there get almost zero outside life, and are always encased with many many projects, while F.I.T students end up getting time to actually go out and explore the city. Also many parsons professors demand that you use the most expensive and quality art supplies which can be another financial issue.

In the end, both schools are great, it just depends on the kind of person you are and what suits you most.

Parsons requires a very rigorous art portfolio. They should have the requirments on the site. If you want to sign up for classes, you should sign up now. Ask around at different studios and say that you want your daugther to go to an art school and she needs a portfolio. They will usually know what to do. If they don't, sign up for observation classes as well as drawing. PArsons will like a variety so don't just focus on one thing.

Also , I just wanted to say that your daughter is very lucky to have a supportive mom like you. I would be my dream to attend an art/fashion school but my parent's won't support me in my decisions.
