UC Blue and Gold Grant

I still have not been able to understand the Blue and Gold Grant after looking through many threads trying to figure it out.

I am planning on attending and dorming on campus at UC San Diego next year.

My EFC = 00000
Cal Grant A = $12,924
Federal Pell Grant = $5550
Chancellor's Scholarship = $5000 per year

With the COA estimated around $29,319 a year, and my financial aid package is a little under $6000, would the Blue and Gold Grant cover those fees? I don't mind and probably do plan on taking out loans and working out a work-study program, but I really would like some information to help clear up the plan for me. I am also still applying for scholarships to help tie off the other costs.. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Blue and Gold is NOT a grant...it's a promise that your UC-wide fees would be covered. Your Cal grant does that so the promise has been filled.

Since you got MORE in grants than that ($11k more), you got a LOT more than the promise.

Your pkg isn't "short" at all. Your student loans will cover the rest. Why aren't you listing those? You very likely got all of your need met with grants and loans.

Were you offered work-study?

Yes, the way I understand it, the Blue & Gold covers the educational fees (Tuition plus a few others), but not room & board. You have a great financial aid offering!

I have not heard back from the government for the work-study program, and I'm not sure when they will notify me. Thank you for the quick replies!

If you were offered W-S, it would be listed in your FA pkg. You wouldn't be notified another way.

I'm starting to see posts that say that some UCs aren't offering W-S to incoming frosh. Don't know why...must be a way to balance their FA awards.

Some UCs do not want first quarter freshmen working.
