I have a question on the presidential scholarships. If you meet the requirements to get them then do you automatically receive them or do you have to apply where they only accept a certain amount of the top transcripts to accept for the scholarship. Or is it basically you have to meet the requirements and apply but they have no limit to the amount of presidential scholarships they give (It's totally based on yes or no, instead of comparing you to other applicants). I know that schools can vary so I would like that when you mention a scholarship that you would answer the question I asked. The specific school I was looking at was Alabama's presidential scholarship.

At Alabama, every student who applies by Dec 1st and submits the scholarship app AND has the stated req'd stats will get the scholarship. There isn't a limited number. Each year, about 600 frosh enroll with that Presidential scholarship.

That Birmingham scholarship link got cut off in the posts here, I guess because it's long (copy/pasting the list seems to make the link this truncated version with the "..." in it).

(Fixed some broken links and removed some awards no longer offered.)

Updated comprehensive list sorted by state.

I have also attempted to calculate the residual cost of attendance (COA) given the scholarship award. NOTE, however, that this was calculated based on each individual college’s published Cost of Attendance, and these estimates may vary in how they are calculated and what costs are included.

University of Pittsburgh

Thanks everyone for a wonderful post, but I don't think anyone mentioned the University of Pittsburgh. They offer about 10 spots for full tuition and room/board. They will even pay for your travel costs and hotel if you visit (need to be pre-selected). Need a minimum of 1430 on SAT's (reading and math). They will even give guaranteed admission to their professional schools (med, dental, law, etc).

The reason why no one has mentioned UPitt is because their scholarships do not fit the requirements of this thread. This thread is for AUTOMATIC merit scholarships for certain stats. If UPitt is only awarding 10 merit scholarships, then that is NOT automatic...that is competitive.

The point of this thread is to provide names of schools and their ASSURED full tuition scholarships so that those who want those can know that if they apply to X school with the stated req'ts, then they will get the scholarship. Obviously, that is not the case with UPitt's offers.

"schools known for good merit aid" might be a good thread for the Pitt info.

^I don't think 10 scholarships qualifies as "good merit aid" OHMom. Pitt definitely not in the good merit aid category. Extremely competitive to get $1.

Just to clarify, Pitt has many merit scholarships ranging from a few grand to full tuition. They also have the Chancellor's that is awarded to approximately 10 students. So, they do have good merit awards- they are just not automatic- which is why Pitt is not on this thread.

This is probably the appropriate thread for the Pitt scholarship, and other large competitive scholarships:

To further clarify, this from the Pitt website:
Quote:
In recent years, scholarship eligible students possessed a minimum SAT I score of 1450 (math and critical reading scores only) or 33 ACT composite score, an 'A' average, and a top 5% class rank (if applicable) while participating in challenging high school curriculums consisting of AP/IB/Honors courses. These students also excelled in various academic and nonacademic activities outside of the classroom.

I don't hink LSU has the Golden Oaks scholarship any more. My son applied and was accepted there and I have checked the non-resident scholarship information . It looks like they changed it to this...I think they hust haven't updated it everywhere on the website..

Flagship Scholars Award

Criteria: ACT score of 33 to 36 or a critical reading and math SAT score of 1440 to 1600 AND a 3.0 cumulative computed, six semester high school GPA. (not selected as a Chancellor’s Alumni Scholar)

Award: $13,000 per year plus the opportunity to earn up to an additional $1550 by participating in the Chancellor’s Student Aide Program.

Chancellor’s Student Aide Program provides an opportunity for students to work in one of our many departments. Students participating in this program can work up to 20 hours per week to earn up to $1550 per year. The student is paid an hourly wage and paychecks are sent bi-weekly

Golden Oaks is awarded by an LSU alumni group, so it has never been listed under the institutional awards on the university website. (That doesn't mean they still give the award - I don't know.)

I just wanted to say thank you so much for this great thread. I'm a senior and I just now started looking at colleges and this helped narrow down my list by a lot.
Oh and University of Alaska Fairbanks offers a full tuition scholarship for students with :
4.0 GPA and 30 ACT/ 2000 SAT

They have a great engineering and wildlife science program (I'm from Alaska)
