Demonstrated need...Gross income or AGI?

Some universities say they will meet demonstrated need, or have eliminated or limited loans for those with incomes under set amounts. When they list those incomes on their websites, do they mean total gross income or adjusted gross income?

Each school may have its own rules, so ask each school. It won't help if someone says that their child's school uses AGI (or Gross), while your child's school may use the other.

True, mom2college. I was thinking perhaps there was a standard for that, or at least if SOME of them count AGI, that could be encouraging. ;-)

I've looked at several schools that I think had some version of the loan cap and/or meet need policy; a few of them were (from memory...so could be wrong)..Emory, Duke, Wellesley, Smith, etc
