Did you explain to Rutgers that child support will soon be ending?

Are you sure? In my state, it is automatic stipulation that if the child goes to college, the non-custodial parents has to pay child support until the child reaches 25 or stops attending college, whichever is the earliest.

You have to check your child support order.

Yes, do check your child support provisions. In some states, like PA, the support ends at age 18 or the month the student graduates high school which ever is later, unless there is a break in high school enrollment.

NJ

There is no fixed age in New Jersey when support stops.* Once your child turns 18 and/or becomes financially independent, either you or the other parent must file papers with the court asking that the order be terminated or adjusted.* This is known as "emancipation."* Based on the facts, the court will decide if the child still needs support from the parents.* Generally, the court presumes that children under 18 need support from their parents.* In some cases, support may continue through college or longer.* Support may terminate automatically if your current order specifies a date, age or circumstance when support stops.

It sounds like your dad may have filed to have your CS end at 18 (or HS grad). It looks like your mom could have filed to request an extension thru college??? Or, maybe the divorce agreement had a specific age indicated?

lerkin every state is different, just as there are differences in how the original divorces are handled state to state. Required support in Michigan ends at 18, anything after that is negotiated not mandated.

Momofthreeboys,

I understand that, that's why I advised OP to check his child support agreement.

Oh I see, I thought the "Are you sure" meant you thought all states covered college in divorce degrees...my apologies....I just interpreted your words from a different angle.
