FAFSA filling question

I am a freshman at a state university and currently receiving financial aid under my fathers income as I have lived with him for the last several years. In May my father passed away, he was my only source of support. When I complete my FAFSA application for this next year I am not sure what to do as I do not qualify under the independent guidelines. Can I still file one more year under my fathers income as a tax return will be filed on his behalf for 2012 and I lived with him until he passed.

Is your mother in your life at all? If so, you will use her as your parent (even if you didn't live with her) --- that is one of the weird quirks of the FAFSA rules.

I am very sorry for your loss.
