I`m a international Student and super confused with a few things and the school financial aid guy isn't helping me at all. I`m enrolled in a 1000 hour program which cost me $13500.
my EFC = 0

i got

2010-2011 $5,500 Award Amount

2010-2012 $5,500 Award Amount

2012-2013 $5,500 Award Amount

The Aid person told me i only receive $6100 Max because its a 1000 hour program. So @ 450 hours i received around $767 and @ my other 450 hours i received $1800. So he told me my last check (last 100 hours) is going to be around $600. He said even i got the full amount each year it doesn't matter. Because of the type of program. Most of the Pell money went towards my tuition. Is this all right ????

You say you are an international student? Do you have permanent resident status in the U. S. ( a green card)? If not, how would you be eligible for a Pell Grant at all?

The maximum Pell for a school year is $5550, no matter what the program costs.

But I am confused by most of your post. International students are not eligible for the Pell grant or any other federal aid. If you are a permanent resident you are not considered International.

And what is a 1000 hour program?

It sounds like you're not being considered to be a full time student.

It sounds like they've calculated how many hours (not credit hours) you're in class and you're only in class part time at certain points.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but a typical student who is taking 15 credit hours a semester, will be in class about 300 hours a semester or about 600 hours a year (assuming some lab time).

So, if they're calculating that a 1000 hour program is about equivalent to 2 full time semesters and 1 part-time semester??? ??? Just a guess.

I don't understand what kind of program this is. You are entitled to $5550 for the year, two full time semesters that are the equivalent of the standard 12 hours that is defined as full time. Some schools break things down differently and if they do that you need to find out what their minimum full time hours are that is the equivalent of the 12 hour standad.

Also, the way it works most of the time, is that you get your PELL money through the school. They get from the government, put it in your student account, TAKE OUT their charges for tuition,fees, and whatever else, and IF there is anything left over that is supposed to go towards your commuting,living books, and other expenses, you get what is left. BUt you should be able to see those statements and they should clearly show the charges per semester, the PELL grant (cut into portions by the semester or quarter or however your school operates) coming into your account, and the account thus getting paid.

What sort of school is this? I've never heard of a school using hours the way you are. Are you a full time student? What is the full tution and fees charged last year and this year?

How much did you receive each year?
What is this program? It sounds like it's something like Beauty School or some other kind of career training.

Clock hour schools have different rules for paying out aid than those of us familiar with credit hour schools are used to. In fact, everyone at financial aid training breathes a sigh of relief when there are no clock hour schools present ... that means much less confusing training that day!

OP, if you post certain info, I can try to help figure it out: When you began the program; number of terms; total clock hours in each term; when you expect to complete the program.
