So I really want to attend University of Washington Seattle but out of state tuintion itself is 29,000 (total out of state cost is <40,000. My parents refuse to pay but this is my dream school! I know about FAFSA but don't have any idea how much I could get. I emailed the FA office at UW and i'm waiting for a response. They are very stingy with FA i've heard :/.
From California, 2 sisters (6 people living in a house), parents make roughly 90,000 per year, URM (Black). How much in scholarships/grants could i possibly get? Thanks guys. UW is my dream school, i really hope the financial aid part works out :/

Also if you could give me an idea of how much Northeastern could give me that would be great as well

Fill out NPC for the schools and adjust according to where you are in terms of stats for the schools. Though, really, I doubt you'll get much from UW. They are struggling to meet the need of their own state residents.

There is really no reason why you shouldn't include them on your list but make sure you are well covered with schools that you know are affordable and that will take you. Nothing wrong with dreaming as long as your feet are still planted on the ground, and yes, you can make the jump and soar if things work out the way you hope. But cost is a big deal in terms of college and does dictate a lot of students' choices.

what do you mean by "not much"? like 3,000 per year? thanks for the advice although it eill really suck if i can't go just because of $ :/

Lots of students can't go to lots of schools "because of $" . . . and your life after college will be a whole lot better if you take those financial constraints seriously. Overspending for a "dream school" can leave you with debt that could take you (and your family) decades to pay off . . . no dream school is worth that.

As already suggested, run the net price calculators for both Washington and Northeastern. That should give you a pretty good idea what your costs would be.

Have you sat down with your parents to identify what they have budgeted out of savings, current and future earnings to help with college?
Don't expect much out of out of state public schools( or instate)

UW won't give you anything. There are probably some highly competitive private scholarships (high GPA/SAT), but state aid is non-existent. The school wants OOS/Full Pay $ and is hard-pressed to give much to IS students whose parents' taxes subsidize the U. If one is admitted with low scores/gpa, it's probably because they want the tuition $. There is no incentive for UW to give money to OOS applicants.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good school, but not worth OOS, especially if you're from California.

You are better off targeting private schools which are more likely to give FA to someone from OOS.

^Agree. And as far as merit aid, a few years ago they had one scholarship that offered a couple thousand for a couple years, that's it for OOS. My kids liked UDub but they didn't apply because it made no sense financially.
