Hi, does anyone know anything about financial aid packages for international students at Cornell (preferrably Hotel School)?
I really like hospitality management but my family is in tight financial situation.
I can't decide whether to prioritize my major interest or financially generous colleges!
my first SAT is 2150: CR 630, W 750, M 770
Math2: 780
I'm also doing IB diploma, involved in many extracurriculars.

yizyiz827, Cornell financial aid really sucks for international students. Most international students (myself included) get accepted but get $0 in aid and are given an offer to be put on a waitlist for aid. The most I've heard people get from this is about $10,000. To increase your chances of getting a substantial amount of aid, apply for aid by Cornell's international early deadline which I think is January 1st.
dragzta, those Canada schools generally cost around CAD$40,000 per year. Canadian schools do not give much aid to internationals AT ALL because most of them are public and the majority of funding comes from their government as opposed to endowments like US private institutions. It is therefore cheaper for Canadians to study in Canada than internationals because part or their taxes go towards education or something like that. There are very few full scholarships to internationals. UBC has 12 International Leader of Tomorrow Awards for which you have to ask your school to nominate you and UofT has 2 awards for international students (but I can't remember the name of it) which you must also be nominated for by your school. Otherwise, the most you'd be offered is an entrance scholarship of CAD$5000 or less. Sorry, but I don't know about earnings for part-time jobs.
GatitaZ, you should be able to apply for financial aid if you apply early, but those policies vary from school to school. The best way to get that answer is to e-mail the financial aid office at Brown and find out for yourself.

Canadian schools are not quite CAD$40 000. The tuition for the University of Toronto for international students varies from CAD20-23K, with room/board being an additionional ~9K. ( Money Matters) If you plan well, it should be closer to 30K. It is true, however, that scholarship money more than 5K/year is quite rare.

How much was your parents' income on your ISFAA? What assets, mortgages and savings did you disclose? How did you calculate your EFC? What does int'l fin. aid depend upon...savings or family income? Please help

Hi I would like to know, what do you do when most of the universities request proof that you are able to finance one year's tuition, but you are applying for financial aid (scholarships)? I mean, if they can see that you are able to pay, would they still offer you the financial aid? Thanks.

The problem is that most American students have no idea about the details of international financial aid. You need to do the research yourself. Make a huge list of schools that interest you, with a wide range of selectivity, and go on EVERY website and see if you could possibly afford it. Be prepared to drop deeply in selectivity/academic quality if you're committed to attending school in the U.S.
shadowedd - You can't lie on your application. List the amount you're willing to pay--more than likely, this will be equal to or less than the need-based determination anyway. Merit scholarships do not consider need/ability to pay. (Financial aid != scholarship, in this context.)

I'm wondering if international students are eligible for American university scholarships, such as in USC, or Northwestern.
If not, I'll probably just apply to the ones that give international aid (no matter how few) like Northwestern (like 50 a year lol) and if not, go to McGill with a full ride I guess.
