Useful sites

There's an article here which outlines all aspects of international financial aid for study in the US - grants, loans, scholarships, etc.... with some useful links to organisations offering such help.

(I'm guessing noone has rated it rather than it being on 0!)

Correct link

Apologies... I seem to have pasted something odd at the end of that last link. Try this one instead!

Hey all! I am an international student applying for admission in 2009 and there is something I can't seem to find out anywhere regarding financial aid. Every school seems to divide the expected contribution per number of siblings in college, but does it apply only to siblings that study in the United States?

My sister is also applying to college next fall (she is a rising senior and I am taking a gap year), but in our home country to a state school that charges no tuition, so she will only need money for living and personal expenses. Do colleges still divide the expected contribution by 2 or do they just subtract the lesser amount of money needed for my sister?

Hey everyone!

I am an international senior student (South African citizen that holds a Canadian permanent residency). My SAT1 scores are : 700CR, 640M,and 600W. And I haven't written SAT2 yet. I am very involved in community work and have international links with NGOs. I'm class valedictorian and have held a bunch of other leadership positions during my school years and have good teacher references.

I've been trying to find colleges mainly in the north eastern states -particularly PA and NY. However my main issue is aid. Due to the unfriendly South African/$ exchange rate my parents can afford to spend about $3000 a year on college! I'm not quite sure how to tackle this issue as the "high-end" universities seem to have the best aid policies, making "safeties" quite hard to find. I'm concerned that this huge financial need will impact admission decisions as very few schools are need-blind. Any suggestions on either good safety and target schools? Can a use my Canadian permanent residency to any advantage?

Thanks for any comments

HI, I'm Mai Anh from Vietnam. I intend to apply ED1 in grinnell college but my family can only contributes less than $10k per year. Many people tell me not to apply ED1 if I want to receive a huge financial aid package. I really love Grinnell and want to show my commitment to the Admission Office. Please advise me.
Thank you very much

@ mtimaxi: email the admissions office and ask if international students applying for financial aid *can* ED their school. Some schools, like carleton, apparently don't allow this. Then ask if they are committed to meeting full need of accepted ED applicants. They are the most reliable source for you to based on and make a decision. Best wishes.

Johns Hopkins

hi,
I plan on applying ED to hopkins...
however i would be needing some kind of financial aid...
do you guys have any idea if hopkins is need blind?do they look at your financial status while admitting you?
or do they admit you even if you cant pay and then wait for your respnse?
the JHU website says they offer a scholarship of about $25,000 a year but how many international students get that?
thanks a ton...

Which ones listed above are available for transfer?
I mean the chance of getting financial aids from those schools is going to depreciate if I'm a transfer?

I was warned that need-blind doesn't mean need-AWARE. In Hernandez's book she says that international students still get put into a separate pile if they're applying for FA.

Well, the financial aid deadline in places like Stanford and MIT are something like mid-Feb. So u can apply a little early, something like mid-November and hopefully wait for a mid-Jan decision. Even if you don't get one you can always send your material by the fin-aid deadline and sit back. Of course, financial aid does earn u prejudice so you have to ensure you have that 'X' factor that will make them court you.

is 1850 out of 2400 in sat a good score?

i am an international student trying for undergraduate education to the USA. I want to know if my score is good enough to get me a full scholarship in any of the universities. If so I would like to know which colleges do and the courses they offer.
