FAFSA Parent PIN

I submitted my FAFSA application several days ago, and they haven't mailed me my my parent's PIN yet. Should I call or email? How long does it usually take for them to mail it?

Thanls.

Since you are using a computer, it is usually better to apply for that PIN online.

How did you "submit" the FAFSA without a PIN? Did you print out the signature page, sign and mail it? If so, you don't need a PIN. The PIN is only for electronic signatures.

Did you request the PIN on line? That goes to an e-mail account. If you're waiting for the PIN by snail mail, it can take 2-4 weeks to receive.

if you did it online, you'll receive your pin within 1-3 days via e-mail.

I submitted the FAFSA without the Parent PIN signature, because they said after they email it to me, I can go back in and sign it, but I haven't received it yet.

ETA: Okay, I'm guessing I know why my parents haven't gotten their PIN. I didn't put down an email address for either one of them, so I'm guessing that they'll send it snail mail instead? I was thinking that they would send it to my e-mail address, but I guess I was wrong.

We got ours via snail mail in about 4 business days. Of course, that was back in October. Things are busier now.

If the student has a pin number, do the parents also need one (or two)?

Both the student and a parent need a pin.

And don't lose your PIN...you'll need it again next year.

Can someone please help me?

I just set up my PIN successfully (through the instant method). I cleared my cache, exited the browser, reopened it, and tried to set one up for one of my parents. After we filled out all of the information, though, it said that I had already applied for a PIN (ie my dad wasn't able to get a PIN). What am I doing wrong?

Well...when your parent applies for a PIN, ALL of the information on the PIN request is the PARENT information (parent name, parent address, parent SS number, etc). Did you put your information by mistake?

No. We do have the same address though--not sure if that matters.

Thank Goodness for CC, I had no idea that the parents and students need separate PINs.

If DH and I file a joint tax return, do I need THREE PINs, one for DD, one for DH, and one for myself? Or just one for DD and one for me?
