Pell Grants

The U.S. Department of Education just sent my family an email saying that we are applicable for pell grants. At first they said that we weren't, what are the qualifications for eligibility for this type of student aid and what is the average aid gift?

yea, I got two also. They were saying something about me being applicable for another kind too, those changes I saw. But since I'm homeschooled, they don't consider our classes rigorous I guess. lol. are you talking about the ACS grant or whatever it is called.

Im not sure, I can't seem to find out on the internet what the qualifications for a pell grant are. Let me know if anyone finds out. Mine looks like the same right now too. Ummm, but on the FAFSA website it says that they are reprocessing. I'm not sure what is going on.

The maximum Pell Grant for the 2007-2008 school year has been increased from $4050 to $4310. It used to be that the Maximum your EFC could be to be eligible for any Pell money was $3850. With the increase in maximum the EFC maximun for eligibility for Pell has probably increased also. So if your EFC was a little above $3850 you may now be eligible for some Pell money where before you were not.

The EFC totals were not changed...however, the methodology used to calculate the EFC has changed. When regulations which affect EFC totals change, the DOE will automatically reprocess the FAFSA application and issue a new SAR. They will also release a new ISIR (school's copy of the SAR) to the school(s) listed on the FAFSA. Sometimes you will get two notices...one saying changes have been made to your SAR and one saying that changes need to be made...such as when one has been pulled for verification.
