are we allowed to send "likely letters" as our acceptance letter until we receive our actually admissions letter?

Although this is not what you'd like to hear, if you have not received an email or a letter yet, time has come to let it go and stop the agony. Inasmuch as there might have been a few exceptions in the past, I would not put any credence in the stories of delayed notifications. It's a very simple process for the GMSP offices to send out a few hundreds emails to the finalists.

Unfortunately, the way they handle the notifications to the ones who did not win is not exactly the most congenial. Applicants used to find out their status through a very simple (and foolproof) process that was ... automatic.

As the winners will find out, the extremely well-meaning objectives of the Gates Foundation have been hampered by the total lack of organizational and communication skills of the groups paid to manage the GMSP. As a scholarship, the GMSP deserves an A+, but as an organization a D-is generous, especially for everything touched by the UNCF.

Do yourself a favor and move on.

xiggi--very true, unfortunately.
but what do you mean by being touch for the UNCF?
are they notoriously known for being very unorganized?

No...so most likely those who didn't get notified are probably not finalists?

When I received that call from Gates like ahhhhhhhh I asked about whether or not all finalists have been notified and they said that every finalist has been notified and will receive a call by the end of this week to make sure that they have received all the forms...

lol yeah i called them and the coordinator told me that notifications are being sent on a rolling basis. she said people should be notified by the first week of april.

i guess that's it. i mean i knew that there was a discrepancy in my application (my teacher accidentally wrote my ssn wrong) and i had to travel through endless bureaucratic ranks to correct the error but still...

anyway all that can be done is to wait.

i've decided to put it out of my mind at this point. if again the first week of april comes and nothing happens, i'll worry then (but we all will have the distraction of college decision to occupy our minds)

i now plan on enjoying the next four days of my spring break (while struggling through the piles of philosophy homework i have conveniently pushed aside) :P

as for you flowerjg, and everyone else i hope you hear something (and good news too)
