am I still on probation with FA?

I used financial aid the school year of august 2005-may 2006. I failed out of school and was put on probation with my school and I guess financial aid.

so this year I decided to try applying for financial aid for this coming fall semester as well as to the same school.

I was denied by the school. so does that mean that I am still on probation with them, but I can maybe get financial aid for another school? or am I denied altogether from both.

I am very confused, and I'm sorry if this sounds confusing. I hope someone can help me! thank you

Did you fill out the FAFSA form? Is that the application for financial aid you are talking about? Was your financial aid from 2005-06 through the school, or was it government (Pell, Stafford loans, etc)? If you apply at another school, you can have your FAFSA information sent to that school to see what type of need-based aid you qualify for at that school. Good luck!

I think that the rule is that if one earns below a 2.0gpa, then they are put on Financial Aid suspension. And, I would safely assume that one would be put on some sort of academic suspension as well.

Therefore, if you made it through that whole school year of August 2005-May 2006, and saw things through to the bitter end, then you would not owe monies to the Financial Aid folks (as I call them). However, it is within the ethical means of the Financial Aid folks as well as the powers that be at your University to place one on academic suspension if one earns lower than a 2.0gpa.

However, if you did not see things through to the bitter end. And, I am speaking of seeing things through to the finals and everything. Well, you might actually owe money to the Financial Aid folks.

So, the first thing you do is see if you owe the school and/or the Financial Aid folks any money at all. If you owe money, do what you gotta do.

Now, while you are tending to that, or after you tend to that, you have to think of what it is you are going to do with your schooling as a whole.

I swear to everything that I am not trying to sound mean, but the odds were high that you were denied by the school because you re-applied to a school you flunked out of.

It would be to your advantage, after you see where you stand with the possibility of owing any money, to take a close hard look at your transcripts from this school. Really examine your transcripts with a fine tooth comb and think of what you did to get yourself in this pickle. Then, apply to Community College for a Liberal Studies AA or something similar. Go way part time to the Community College, slowly work your way through classes that are similar to the ones you failed at University, and maybe just pay out of pocket for the classes. Shoot start with one class at a time and work your way back up. After you do that, you can then think of transferring elsewhere.

There's hope for you.

For federal financial aid you have to maintain certain levels. According to the info at my daughter's school these are the rules for keeping financial aid

Quote:
Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements-
1. Not exceed a maximum number of hours to complete the degree program ; AND,
2. Maintain a cumulative Graduation/Retention Grade Point Average ; AND,
3. Successfully complete at least 75% of the total cumulative hours attempted. This includes all courses attempted at any college or university. For example, a student who has attempted a cumulative total of 55 hours must have successfully completed at least 41 credit hours to meet the requirement (55 X .75 = 41.25; round decimals down to whole numbers).

Total Hours Attempted GPA Required
0-30 .............................1.70

31 or more......................2.00
I believe this applies to all classes taken at all schools. If you are close to qualifying you could try taking some community college classes to get your GPA and % up to where you would qualify (assuming you qualify on a financial basis). Also I have read that it is possible to appeal and also to get aid on a probabtionary basis but do not know how it works. You would need to discuss it with the financial aid people of your school.
