I have heard that some states offer tuition reciprocity between state schools. I am searching for a list. We live in VA. Does anyone know of resources for this? Thank you.

Some states, not VA. In the mid-atlantic and south, we have the academic common market that serves rare majors not offered in a resident's state.

Some colleges offer significant OOS scholarships, but most are second or third rate publics.

I just have to ask...why isn't the OP considering one of the many very good public universities IN Virginia? Many many students from out of state are seeking admittance into VA's public universities. If we lived in VA, my kids would both have attended a public university there.

My daughter is looking at her options. She has a shot a W&M and UVA but both are as competitive as many of the Ivies. The other public U's are extremely large and can be a repeat of HS cliques. She's looking at options out of state and I'm trying to pay for them.

There are some schools where high performers can receive scholarships and with them, the tuition is reduced to the instate rate. Look at the McNair, Cooper and McKissick Scholarships at U of South Carolina, for example.

Why not also examine some of the private institutions in Virginia...some are quite affordable and comparable to the State Universitys. With the private's you can also take advantage of the Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant...about $3200 for the 07-08 year (VTAG is not a need-based grant). Many are considerably smaller but some offer prety decent FA packages and a few are FAFSA only.
