Whoo Hoo! GA winner in our house - my computer couldn't load the GA pdf from above. First year independent homeschoolers were allowed, too.

I emailed the Texas contact today and he said it would be another couple of weeks before they mail results to the winners. They've just begun the selection process.

NY notifications are out--I got mine today. It was an extremely pleasant surprise, since I forgot all about it...

FYI, note the payment process since this also varies by state. In OH, you have to register first on a special web site then request the payment after July 1 and payments are made directly to the student and not to the college. The entire amount is also paid at once so I figure my daughter will sign the check over to the school but I'm expecting that this will be applied to spring semester since it will come too late for fall.

I know from a comment somewhere on this site that other states pay directly to the college (and frequently late)

No news in Alabama either.

Wow, this takes a long time. It sure would be nice to know what some states know that others don't know?

Patience is a virtue, but it sure is hard sometimes!

What is the amount of the scholarship and what criteria are used to determine if you qualify or not?

Although this is a federally funded program, each state sets its own critieria, but the main criteria is suppose to be academic record, mainly based on GPA, test scores, and class rank. In Alabama, the application requires all of this information plus school and community activities, leadership, and a short statement essay. I've looked at other states, and a great deal of their applications are very short, only asking for the basic academic numbers.

In some states, the school must nominate a student for he/she to be considered. I know that is true in Alabama (each school can nominate a max. of 2 students).

The link that was sent in the previous posting should assist you in finding your state's department of education requirements.
