I am a rising senior,which means I am going to college next year.
So,do i have to start to prepare applying to a bunch of scholarships?is it too late to start now????? is there a scholarship that's only for immigrants?

Applying for scholarships can be just as burdensome as applying for college. Make sure you do a thorough job on the latter. There's essentially two types of scholarships: need-based and merit-based (although some are a combination of the two). I applied for a couple of private scholarships separate from the schools I was applying to senior year - and got one - a four year ROTC scholarship.

It's not too late to start now but the deadlines will likely occur throughout the fall and winter and it will take a lot of research to likely find some decent funds. I have two things to say: 1) do not pay any money to be considered for a scholarship and 2) do not pay for a scholarship search service.

As far as specific scholarships there's all kinds for all sorts of things... You just have to do your research.

Are you applying for financial aid? If so, check with your colleges about how they treat outside scholarships. Many schools will simply reduce your aid by the amount of the award, netting you exactly zero for all that work.

That's very true... A lot of time you have to have your scholarships total above your need (COA - EFC) to make a difference. Georgia Tech was one of those schools - taking back scholarships they would have otherwise given me because I was expecting a hefty Air Force Scholarship - the deadline for that was around December of my Senior year...

I haven't seen a scholarship directed exclusively towartd immigrants but there are a number for first generation to attend college and minorities, if either of these apply to you. Many scholarships also have a need component, so start by getting an estimate of your EFC. Local/state scholarships are probably your best bet, after those awarded by colleges. Make sure you spend enough time researching your colleges and crafting good essays (you may be able to adapt them for scholarship use as well). Worry about outside scholarships after that.

There are no clear cut "easy" scholarships to get, unless you meet the merit requirements at a particular college and are accepted there, then you are generally entitled to be awarded that merit money based upon your GPA, SAT, ACT score, etc. or in the case of athletic scholarships, the NLI is signed and guarantees you that money. However, neither are easy to acquire - diligence, dedication and prudence are required.
