Does anyone know of any schools that would give automatic full tuition to a 3.8, 31ACT type student

The University of Tennessee's Electrical and Computer engineering department. They give 18,000 a year, tuition is 14,000 out of state.

I just did a crossword puzzle at lunch that asked the name of the college in the Appalachians that had no tuition. It was Berea.

I looked them up after lunch of course. They admit lower income, higher achieving students (dunno the exat stats), and charge no tuition (I'm sure they must charge room/board though...I didn't look that far).

There are not a lot of "automatic full tuition" scholarships. Most awards that are full tuition scholarships or full rides (that include room/board) are by special application. The McNair at U of South Carolina is one the OP should look into. I think their ACT might be a tad on the lower side for the full ride. BUT you never know.

Also, U of South Carolina also awards scholarships based on academic merit...the McKissick and Cooper scholarships ($2000/$4000 respectively) BUT also reduces the tuition cost to the instate amount. A very good award. When my kid applied, these did not require a separate application...although my kid did complete their honors college application...which is what is used for consideration of the McNair. BUT get hopping...it's due soon as are most of the ultra competitive full tuition awards.

For Alabama OOS, you must have an ACT 32 to get the full-tuition scholarship.

Did you take the SAT? What is your M+ CR? They also award for that.

If you can't make those thresholds, then try Miss St. While the scholarship may not be "automatic," they will likely award a competitive one to you IF you apply ASAP. You might even get housing, too.

Go to their scholarship website....look at scholarships for incoming freshmen...and look at competitive scholarships....and look at dept scholarships. With your stats, I think you may get nearly a full ride scholarship....

Go to this post on CC http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/...27-post46.html skip the part about Tulane...look at the Miss St info...as you can see you have the stats for the best schollies...even the competitive "big" one. If you apply right away, you have an excellent chance of getting a big award. Miss St is kind of a "first come, first serve" for schollies.

It's on the Uni's Electical and Computer computer science website. I think it is called Mihn Kao, or some such. The founder of Garmin is an UT alumni, and he is the one that sponsors it.

Berea College is a work college - you don't pay tuition, but you do pay in work. Every student is required to have a campus job - you're assigned your first year, and you pick your own in the rest. You're required to work at least 10 hours a week, with a maximum of 15 hours and 20-25 hours with special permission. You also get paid for this work but the rates suck - they are $3.80-$6.25/hour. Of course, they suck because part of your pay is going towards the Labor Grant and free tuition Berea is giving you.

With a 3.8 and a 31 ACT score, you could get a Capstone scholarship at Howard University - tuition, fees, and room. If you can get that 31 up to a 32, you can get a Founders Scholarship - which is tuition, fees, room, board, and a $500 yearly book voucher. Get it up to a 34 and you get tuition, fees, room, board, a $350 book voucher and a laptop - but you have to maintain a 3.5 GPA (for the other two awards it is a 3.0 and a 3.3, respectively).

Ohio University will give you 4 years of full tuition. Many others too. Google your gpa and test scores.

The suggestion of googling your test scores actually works. You can refine your search even more by doing an advanced search for only addresses ending in .edu.

I need to correct my answer in post #7.

Usually, with an ACT 30-31 & 3.5 GPA, an OOS student gets 2/3 tuition. But, the College of Engineering has a special offer

With an ACT 30 or 31 - If a student majors in Engineering, then he'll get the full-tuition scholarship PLUS $2500 a year at Alabama.

Here's the info....

Out of State Students - Engineering.

Students who have a 30-31 ACT or 1330-1390 SAT (math and verbal scores only) and at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA will receive a tuition supplement to bring their University-level scholarship offer up to the value of tuition. In addition, they will receive $2,500 per year for four years.

BTW...Alabama has just completed its Phase II on it mega Science and Engineering Complex. Phase III is commencing now. Here's an aerial shot of the new mega complex.

News from the College | College of Arts and Sciences (scroll down) The first phase is the Pentagon shaped building - it's called Shelby Hall. The second phase are the buildings on the left. Now the third phase will be built.

When the third phase is complete, it will be one of the largest in the nation.

The complex was awarded a national award last summer.

Find a good scholarship is a hard thing

..Did anyone checked getscholarshiponline.info? As of now, I have gone through a number of resources mentioned on this site but haven't found one with automatic approval.
