is it better if i file my taxes alone, as an idependant

i had a job earlier this year before starting college this fall. i couldn't have more than $2000. i have a job now buts its under work study.

i filled my fasfa with parents tax return last year and didn't get much.

It doesn't matter how you file your taxes, FAFSA is going to use your parent's info.

romanigypsyeyes is correct. it does not matter how you file your taxes. For FAFSA you are considered a dependent until you are 24 (or married, have a dependent of your own you support >50%, become a veteran etc etc). Your tax filing status is irrelevant to the calculation of your EFC.
