Giftedgothic- the application said:
"Your application must be in a folder with inside pockets and clasps.
Note: Everything, except items in sealed envelopes, should be three-hole punched and placed in the clasps of the folder."

................

I most definitely just **** myself.

I totally missed that part.

My folder has pockets, just no clasps. How much do you think this will affect me?

Just emailed my local Elks Lodge explaining to them how it's not in a folder with clasps. Let's hope they're nice, and I can drop off the right folder tomorrow! lol I am pathetic.

I'm sure they'll be fine with it. There were a lot of directions and it's easy to miss something.

Yeah. I just happened to miss that one, and what do you know! Most everywhere else on the app just said "folder" (including the checklist, which I quoted from).

mmm. I don't remember the due date ... my D submitted this back in ? september? but yes, it def said : "Everything, except items in sealed envelopes, should be three-hole punched and placed in the clasps of the folder"....I remember thinking ...wow, a very specific type of folder, but then I thought, well, its a good idea, keeps everything together and they review so many applications - I guess this would help keep everything organized and easy to review. (except the items in the sealed envelopes !!) LOL.

I'll check on the due date.

checked the website...

Well, here's what it says now. I'm going to look at home later and see when the date was. I guess its not important now, but now I"m curious. Anyway, here's what the website says now (condensed of course, but ...)

<<The 2010 Most Valuable Student scholarship application deadline has passed. Applications must advance through local, district and state competition to reach the national competition. National finalists will be notified by email on February 1, 2010. To be eligible for an award, national finalists will be required to submit a secondary application online, which will include an essay, aid received to date and college plans. The national finalists will also be required to mail their FAFSA Student Aid Report to the ENF. National finalist applications are due March 1, 2010

The Chicago office of the Elks National Foundation will announce the 500 national winners, and notify them in writing, on April 1, 2010. (Many local Lodges, districts and state Elks associations award their own scholarships through this program. These scholarships are not to be confused with the 500 Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarships>>

They certainly give a lot of scholarships, so it was definitely worth the effort IMHO.

Good luck to this year's applicants! I just wanted to pop in here and let you know that real people really win this! My D won one of the 500 national awards of $4,000 a few years ago, and a wonderful kid from our area I have known since they were in the third grade won the TOP award of $60,000. There are also many local, regional and state awards in addition to the 500 national awards that some of you will receive. It is a great program.

P.S. The exhibits in my D's folder were photocopies similar to those described by some of you. She used colorful backgrounds.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Like I said, I emailed my lodge to see what they say. If it's something as little as this, I'm sure it won't be that big of a deal.

My exhibits were all in black and white. Ink is expensive, this is a contest based off financial need... So I figured black and white is okay.

Lol I feel so stupid. Just called my lodge and the guy didn't even know it had to be in a clasped folder.

Wonder why they decided to change it and add a separate app?

For all of you who forgot folders, I forgot exhibits. Found them behind my desk.

Oh well, I guess we'll see what happens in a few weeks

Well, exhibits are only 5 point, so it shouldn't hurt you too much.

Do you think we'll find out in a few weeks, or closer to January like last year's applicants? I know they're doing things a little bit differently this year, but I hate waiting like this! haha
