Oh My God: Jefferson Scholarship UVA

I was not nominated by my School for the Jefferson @ UVA until today. I filled out all the essays, forms etc by 11:56 tonight (12:00AM deadline).

Turns out the guidance counselor has to press the final submit button for the application to be sent off.

What am I going to do? I'm so crushed right now...

When did you ask the school to do this for you? Did you remind them?

I assumed once all school info was complete I would click submit. They have to click submit...=/. It was submitted this morning. Hopefully the Jefferson people will be understanding when we call.

"I was not nominated until the day of the deadline". If you're going to compare me to murphy's law, just don't post as it's not very kind. It's also incorrect.

As an update: I called the foundation and they were extreemly kind and understanding of my situation and extended my deadline with no strings attached. Wonderful people!

^^^

good news...

However, I think sk8termom had a valid point. When you wait until the last day to submit, that doesn't give you any "extra time" to deal with something that was overlooked. In this case, it was overlooked that the school needed to hit submit.

The university probably made an exception since Nov 1 was a Sunday.

If tilgaham didn't know they were nominated until the date of the deadline, how on earth do y'all expect them to have submitted any earlier? This was not procrastination, they were either unaware of their nomination or the school delayed in nominating them.

The people working for the Jeff Foundation are a great bunch. It doesn't surprise me that they cut you a break on the timing of things. They could easily verify the circumstances with your GC if they needed.

Btw, congrats on the nomination. It's a wonderful opportunity. Good luck!

I've reread what the OP wrote. I don't think your suggested scenario applies.

she said she was not nominated until the day of the deadline, I don't see where that is getting lost in translation?

I was not nominated until Monday around 11:30 (during my lunch break). So no it was not procrastination.

The Jefferson people verified with my counselor on the phone and gave me an entire week to do whatever I needed to do. The lady was exceedingly kind on the phone and I ended the conversation with even higher hopes of winning this truly amazing scholarship!

@Flvadad: Thank you!
@sundoll: I am a he.
@mom2college kids: as far as I know they made an exception out of the goodness of their hearts. When I explained the scenario the lady said "bless your heart". She was amazing.

Tilga, I certainly didn't mean to be unkind - Murphy's Law is if something can go wrong, it will! I didn't catch that you weren't nominated til that day and apologize if you were offended. It's just a such a common complaint around here that websites go down, and other such catastrophes, invariably on the deadline day. I'm glad that UVA made an exception for you. Good luck!

Congratulations! I'm glad this worked out!

I hope your school acts more quickly for future students...I believe they've had the paperwork for over a month.

@ Dean J

I believe they had not nominated because they didn't think anyone was applying to UVA. Luckilly I happened to be in the right place at the right time.

& Thank you!
