Rumor about Middlebury Int'l FA...Is it True?

I got the impression that last year (Fall 2009 admission), only high school graduates from United World College were getting financial aid/scholarships from Middlebury. Especially in China. I know one Chinese student who just enrolled this fall and he did not get anything from Midd despite his "need".

As many people know Midd is not Need-blind anymore because of the financial crisis. But how can it decrease its financial aid budget to such a great extent?

I hope any "insiders", especially international students, could tell me the real situation. Or correct me if the rumor is actually false.

Thank you everyone !!

P.S. My family's annual income is less that USD20000, with me as the only child. And we live in a small, 80 m2 flat. I obviously could not afford Midd.

Many colleges will have little money for internationals this year. Throw in your applications but have a safety at home.

Although Middlebury is not need blind for international students this year (meaning they consider the ability to pay when making admissions decisions), they still meet 100% of the demonstrated need for all accepted international students. So if you get accepted to Middlebury, they will meet 100% of your demonstrated need.

I want to know how such a kid was able to enroll.... "I know one Chinese student who just enrolled this fall and he did not get anything from Midd despite his "need". "

If he didn't get any FA, and he had genuine "need," then how's he paying? He wouldn't have gotten a visa without demonstrating that he could pay. He must have gotten the money somewhere.

Maybe some colleges are getting suspicious about the "need" of some internationals since it might be harder to verify the truth of what is being claimed.

"My family's annual income is less that USD20000, with me as the only child."

You can't afford to study in the US unless you get a scholarship that covers everything (tuition, fees, books, housing, meals, personal expenses, transportation). There are very few scholarships that are this generous. You need to look for a university where you can study in your own country.
