| taking questions for FIU i'm not an actual student at FIU, but I live less than 10 minutes away from the campus.
I been there several times asking for information. I've applied and been accepted but it's not likely I'll be attending.
I speak to many students so I'm familier with the types of people who attend.
feel free to askaway |

| bleh i'll just write some stuff here cuz i'm bored.........
well FIU is a nice campus (university park one)....I hear it's the size of FSU, but I really don't know.
its a commuter school so students are always rushing in and out, very fast paced too...
the parking lot is a complete HELL....students have litterally been stabbed by others in fights for a single parking space....one incident occuring last spring i think where 2 students stabbed a guy who had to get flown to the hospital by lifeflight helicopter...
the school is on a famous hispanic area known as calle ocho. (8th ST)...where pretty much everyone speaks spanish and it'll seem like you'll need a pasport to be there lol....the people are nice and the area isn't too ghetto at all...it's on a nice part of miami....
the girls are pretty hot, especially for those who like preppy latin girls....mainly cubans, columbians, venezuelans, etc....
if you're a girl...well hope that you're into metrosexual kinda guys cuz there's a lot of them at FIU...mostly guys who pretend that they're rich by dressing like gays, but also quiet a few driving their daddy's $70k mercedez.....then there's those rugged out door types who act like they're too old to be in school....arghh!! sorry i'm getting off topic here........
anyway...the lines as far as I know, suck!!!!....I waited about 40 minutes in line just to set up a metting with a financial aid counsoler there.....and this line seems there M-F...
......to be continued soon! |

| FIU is very good school - yeah it doesn't have the best football team, that's why its not well known, but academicaly I've met some of the best professors here. Some departments are better organized than others, so research where your want to go first, but overall, if you what to stay in Miami don't have the wallet for UM, FIU is a great option |

| I live 10 minutes from FIU back in Miami and am currently a student at FSU; there is no way that the sizes of the two campuses are the same. FIU's campus is way smaller and more tightly compacted than that of FSU.
On the other hand... does anyone know anything about the Chemistry department over at FIU? I'm going to be home this summer and am planning on taking a course at FIU due to its proximity to my house and just wanted to know if anyone knew anything regarding professors and etc. |

| ^ Thats strange, the stats state other wise with regards to size. FIU being on a 573.4 acres compared to FSU being on a 451.6 acres. I also been on both campuses and I would have to agree with the stats |

| wth? I care about FIU and I'm sure a lot of other people do too.
Anyway..
It may not be the top school in the nation, but I was impressed by it anyway. I got accepted and might even choose FIU over UF. When I took my tour the dorms were heaven! If someone doesn't care about FIU academically then they should definitely care about how great the dorms are.
My personal belief is that if someone tries their hardest, uses all of the available opportunities, and is dedicated they can make their college exerience the best academically/socially/etc. You don't have to go to Yale or even UF to walk away with all that you need for the future.
I also noticed how lively the campus was. Everyone looked attractive and alive. The few students I met and/or spoke to were all actually very cool and nice. The library is awesome! I was really impressed with it. The food area had a huuuuuuge selection to choose from. The campus was clean. I liked it. |

| I care about it too. You are right milk chocolate, the dorms are the biggest and most spacious compared to other schools, and if you do some research you will find that alot of departments are filled with many great scholars. I think of FIU as UC's.... I mean UF and FSU are like berkley and ucla, but does that mean UC Davis and the all the others suck?? No, just they have less endowments. |

| ^^^^^That's actually a good comparison. The Florida university system should strive to be more like California's, where all the UC's are highly ranked. |

| Are there any good On-campus... or close off campus apartments that are cheaper than the dorms?
I am doin an exchange their next fall through NSE from the University of Minnesota. I noticed that housing is about $10,000 for the year which is quite high |
