The audition will begin with check-in and Q&A beginning at 8:30am. The dance portion of the audition will begin at 9:30 and run until 11:00 or so. The dance audition consists of a warm up, a ballet combination and a jazz combination. The combinations are taught in a class format, then Kate will divide the participants into groups of 4 or 5 and the group will perform the combination twice; once with a current MT student with them and once on their own.

After the dance audition, everyone gets a short break, then the individual appointments begin at 12:00. The individual appointments are every 10 minutes until 7:00pm or so. During your individual appointment, you will do your two songs and your monologue. You can do them in any order you like - however you are the most comfortable.

I hope this helps!

We don't have a "do not do" list, so you are free to perform any selections that you like.

As far as the dance, I would recommend that you enroll in a ballet class and a jazz class. I think that will help you in preparing for all of your auditions.

Oh lord. If you only knew where I lived you'd realize there are no dance classes or studios in town. But I'll search. I really want to get into FSU. I mean I dont mind going to UCF but in my opinion it looks like a big community college. And UF cares to much about winning sports (IMHO)

Ohernjr....take All4FSU's advice and take ballet and jazz dance classes. I realize there are no dance studios in your town. But I imagine that within a 50 mile radius from where you live, there must be something. I live in a rural town of 1700 people. While we don't have dance in town, there are studios in a 50 mile radius. I don't know your access to a car but if you have any possibility of taking dance, I would suggest you do for BFA admissions and if you want to puruse MT anyway. As well, FSU is a school very strong in dance and I believe dance will matter in your audition there.

I also would advise you that while it is natural to have favorite programs, it is best to not get too focused or locked into wanting to attend one partiicular BFA program. With the very chancy odds at these BFA programs, it is best to cast a WIDE net of a variety of programs that might be a good fit, with a range of artistic and academic odds of admissions, and enough schools to yield a positive outcome. Even the most successful applicants I know, had they only applied to one school and that was the school they did not get into, their outcome would be very different than it turned out to be and in some cases, they got into 5-6 BFA programs. I hope you are applying to more than FSU or even FSU, UCF and UF. You may want to add in non audition BA back up MT programs. Best of luck in your pursuit.

There are also great ballet DVDs that I got last year, though I'm not sure how helpful they can be if you have no experience whatsoever. FSU's dance is definately a DANCE audition, and not necessarily "dance for musical theatre" at the auditions. You definately need to know basic ballet to survive the dance portion. Additionally, I'm pretty sure FSU is very "triple threat" oriented, and a severe lack of dance skill could hurt (though, I could be wrong in this). There are some schools, though, that take in singing ability above all else.

But, FSU has a GREAT education program (have a friend that goes there) and a terrific BA theatre program.

I've found a dance studio in gainesville that does dancing for teens which is what I am so I think it should work out great. Even if I dont make the MT program at FSU It'll still be a fun experience.
