2008 audition weekends

I just wanted to let the CCers who plan to join us for MT auditions this year know that we will have a show running through two of the audition weekends. The Rocky Horror Show will have multiple performances that will not conflict with the audition schedule.

I strongly encourage you to add it to your travel plans because I think seeing a production is such a great way for prospective students to gain additional insight into a program. I have included a link to the performance dates on our web site and you can purchase tickets online by clicking on "ticket office." We expect this one to sell out earlier than usual, so I advise that anyone interested in attending purchase tickets early.

Best wishes!

My S will be auditioning the 25th for acting. We will have all the info. in by Dec. 1. However, he is testing again in early December. Does central admissions base its decision on the data submitted by the first, or will there be time for them to see test scores that might arrive toward the end of the month? My wife is looking forward to the trip; a 1967 FSU grad who has not seen the campus since then.

I hope your wife enjoys a trip down memory lane! The Fine Arts Building is located on the older side of campus, so she will find herself in somewhat familiar surroundings.

If the application and all required information is in to admissions by Jan. 2nd, they will mail a decision on Feb. 20th. If you son is testing in Dec. then admissions should have the scores before Jan. 2nd. The School of Theatre has the Dec. 1st deadline so we can be sure that students have at least begun the process of applying to the University.

We may not be able to get up Saturday in time for the Rocky Horror production. Is it possible to see the Sunday performance between audition events on Feb. 10?

It is possible, depending upon the individual appointment time. The dance audition will be over at 11:00 - 11:15 and the individual appointments will begin at 11:45 and go until 7:00 or so. Curtain for Rocky is at 2:00 and it should be over by 5:00 at the latest. Please give me a call if I can help you work through the time table: (850) 644-5548.

All4FSU,
My D is auditioning this week-end (jan. 26), but her audition time is 7:20 pm. Since dance auditions, info session, etc. is in the morning, can we leave in the afternoon and come back around 6 or so, or should we stay in the building? What's your recommendation?

Unfortunately, we will miss Rocky Horror--one of our favorites!
Thanks!

Kim,
It is very likely we will move your daughter's audition time up a little bit. We will post a revised individual appointment time list after the dance audition based on who checked in and last minute cancellations. After the dance audition you are free to leave; we ask that you return to the audition room 20 minutes before your individual appointment time slot. Many candidates with later individual appointments will go back to their hotels or take some time to walk around campus. We are hoping the weather cooperates so you can enjoy your free time!

Thanks for letting us know. It would be great to have an earlier slot. She was originally the first one to audition on Feb 9, but ended up having a school conflict, and had to get on the waiting list for Jan 26. Fortunately, the dept. called about 2 weeks later, and had room for us, but told us then that her audition time would be late.

We thought we could probably leave in the afternoon--my husband has not seen the campus yet, which is beautiful BTW, so we will walk around, go back to our hotel for a while, etc.

We're coming from Ala so weather won't be that much different but it would be nice to walk around if it's not raining.

Thanks for all of your informative posts and responses in the CC website!

What's the average number of prospective students who audition on these days?

We schedule 40 audition appointments per day. We might end up with one or two more or less due to illnesses or travel issues, but since we have a very long waiting list for appointments, I really try to fill all cancellations - even the last minute ones.

Thanks!

Michele:

Thanks for a great day today at auditions. You guys ran things very smoothly and it was a warm and welcoming environment. I can tell why the kids love it there so much. ROCKY HORROR was great, too!

My daughter, Taylor, loved the fact that you keep the program small. She felt, after her audition, that the program was definitely somewhere that a performer can become a true triple threat!

Thanks again and best of luck with the difficult decisions ahead!

DisneyDirector,
Thank you; it was truly our pleasure. It was a fabulous day and I am constantly amazed at what these young people are able to accomplish at only 17-18 years of age.

Our jobs will be very difficult indeed this year....

I have to add that Rocky Horror was astounding. Nick Scalzo was NO DOUBT as good as Tim Curry's outlandish performance, if not better (if I'm aloud to say so!). Plus, it's great to go to a performance where there is an overall impression that everyone is "trained." That no one is harming themselves and I can just sit back and relax and not worry about the next song for the struggling performers.

Again, for ANYONE wondering about FSU's program, see a show. They WILL deliver.
