Landis Dorm Layout Question

Is anyone familiar with the layout of the Landis Dorm?

My daughter has been assigned room 235 which is usally located in the "male section" of the dorm (according to housing). This year, due to the large number of girls in Landis, some rooms that were set aside for guys in years' past have been assigned to girls. Housing was able to assure us the suite room to 235 would be 232 which would also be girls.

Through facebook my daughter was able to verify that guys will be in room 238.

Does anyone know where 235 would be in proximity to 238? Would 235 actually be on the same hall as 238? We are aware that Landis is in a U shape but can't find a layout of the rooms online.

We have e-mailed the Hall Manager with this question but have yet to get a reply.

We would appreciate any light anyone out there can shed on this.

I'm on-campus for Summer C session now. Landis is used for CARE now I believe, so if I ever get a chance to get in there for some reason, I'll let you know.

I live in Reynolds now, and will be living here again for fall/spring (the room next door actually). Here, the halls are mixed. The floor I'm on (the 0 floor) only has a few rooms and is just guys. But, like on the 1st and 2nd floors, there are both males and females. I have a friend on the 2nd floor who is right next to where the girls' rooms end. So, they could be just the same over at Landis for the fall/spring

i also have a couple questions about landis...

is it possible to determine who our suitemates will be? I know the rooms are numbered consecutively, but is the room to our right or lefts our suitemate? for instance, if i'm in room 416, is 415 or 417 my suitemate?

and also...does anyone know if the majority of girls' beds are extra long or regular? i hate that we don't know :[

I am quite sure all the beds are XL. The even rooms are next to each other and the odd rooms are as well, with evens being across the hall from odds. If you are 416, you might be a suitemate of 414 or 418, depends on the dorm, the floor, etc. 415 might be right across the hall, or due to the position of an elevator, a lounge, a trash shute etc it might be around the corner. You won't really know until you get there as FSU does not publish floorplans of dorms, probably for security reasons.

We did find out from the Hall Manager that several girls will actually be on the guys' wing, but apparently the RA will be right next to them.

The hall manager was very kind to respond and even gave us the dimensions of the room.

livelovelaugh - You could e-mail the hall manager of Landis if you have any questions about your room at dkincy@admin.fsu.edu . She is very nice to respond - it may just take a day to hear back. BTW - All the beds are XL twin.

Thanks for all the info. My son will be in 431 which is a triple (wanted a double, but glad to be in Landis). I just emailed to find out what the layout is like. The picture on the FSU Landis site shows a bunk bed and then the third bed as the top of a bunk. We did hear that triples get two fridges. My concern is the number of guys using the one bathroom.

When you have a triple, do they connect 2 triples to use 1 bathroom? or does each triple have it's own bathroom? I don't think 6 girls sharing 1 bathroom is a pretty sight :-) On the other hand, if they have their own bathroom, it's better than 2 doubles using 1 bathroom (3 people vs. 4 people)

in the landis hall description on the housing site, it said that landis included triples with bath, and just triples.

triples with bath means that the room gets its own bathroom (3 girls share). However, just a triple means that two rooms share (6 girls).

I have a triple, and am not really looking forward to that part...

From what housing said to us usually a triple room shares a bathroom with a double room. The bathroom consists of a shower & toilet, but each room will have its own sink. I know it probably sounds a bit extreme for 5 girls to be sharing 1 shower & toilet, but chances are everyone in your suite situation won't have their first morning class at the exact same time and you all will figure out a system that will work.

We also heard that a triple usually shares the bath with a double. My s will have a big adjustment...he's an only child and has never had to share a bedroom or bathroom. LOL

ohh, ok. sorry for any misinformation, i had just assumed that triples shared with triples, doubles with doubles, etc. i feel a bit better.

Still, I've never shared a room, and only shared a bathroom with my younger brother (who doesn't really count), so it will be quite a change. :]

I'm sure the bathroom situation will be an adjustment for most students. My d has never shared a room and for most of her life has never shared a bathroom.

Just think many Americans for generations lived in homes with only one bathroom and did just fine. (If you remember the movie "Sixteen Candles" that entire family is sharing only 1 bathroom.)
