Admitted; likely Honors. Scholarships are uncertain unless you apply very early and go meet with Admissions and Honors with your transcripts in hand.

I thought FSU looked at all admitted students and considered them for honors and scholarships. Why go and meet with them?

The reason is this is what we did and with our daughters. We were told that scholarships are generally first-come, first-served. It was successful...both received scholarship offers. Was it due solely to scholarship or scholarship with personal investment in the fashion of a scheduled visit? I don't know, but if you're really interested in FSU it may very well make a difference. Not to mention the ability to see what the school is like from an up-front, personal basis.

Re: Chances for honors/scholarships?

Thanks for the info. My daughter has applied but FSU is kinda on the back burner for her. We'll just have to wait and see how things go. I'm trying to convince her to keep an open mind towards all schools she's applied to.

As you likely know already, I would recommend FSU for an aspiring student over most schools due to the individual opportunities the school presents plus the financial support the student may receive. Florida State is an incredible bargain...even with the differential tuition fees.

At some point I believe universities are so inundated and numb from the so-called numbers game that a personal investment can make a significant difference. This is, I suspect, where the true Ivy League schools make a break from the accomplished state universities. While FSU may not require such visitation yet, I recommend it for ambitious students who seek to gain an edge.

You may want to recalculate your GPA. The GPA of 4.5 that you gave is the Florida HS weighting system; FSU weighting is 1 for AP/IB/AICE/DE and 0.5 for honors. Since your UW is 3.73 and it hiked up to a 4.5 and you took 4 APs I think that Weighted GPA is under the FL HS weighting system. Recalculate it in FACTS.org.
Nevertheless you are definitely in FSU honors if u have above a 1930 (3 score, which you most likely do) and above a 3.9 (FSU GPA) you are in.
Scholarships outside of Bright Futures seems ify unless its need based.

How do you recalculate in FACTS? Do you have to enter all your classes into a calculator?
