Application Part 2: Essay STRONGLY Recommended

Just curious, but is the FSU essay really optional???? It says 'strongly recommended' online. I plan on doing one...

If your stats are in the top 20% then the essay is probably optional if you applied early. If your are not in the upper 20% with SAT and GPA, or if you did not apply in the first decision period, you better do the essay and the resume.

We were just on a tour there yesterday, and in the admission session they said they said this about the optional essay: "we want to see that you did it. It tells us something about your work habits." The most important factors, by far, are grades, followed by test scores, but they do consider the essay if they are on the fence about you at all. Might as well do it!
