Thoughts?

We were thinking of giving these as gifts.

I did an ITGS Portfolio about e-Books last year and my favorites were the Amazon Kindle and Sony Librie. The Kindle has a huge advantage over the Librie though, with the amount of ebooks available. Oh and I'm pretty sure it has free wireless internet access (But you can only access the book store).

But keep in mind this was December of '08 when I evaluated these readers and things might have changed.

I'm not familiar with ebook readers, but check out this "Laptop Steering Wheel Desk" that is described in attached Amazon.com link. You could use an ebook reader with the steering wheel desk while driving to use your time more efficiently. Most of the customer reviews give it 5 stars. I'd only give as a gift though to folks I don't really like too much.

The reviews for that product are hilarious. I am literally laughing out loud right now.

PTN - I'm helping my dad research ebooks for my mom for Christmas. I'd love to know what you find out. I played with the Sony Reader at Borders this week. Neat. Not sure if a Kindle is better or not. She needs access to periodicals & definately needs WiFi access to download books.

From what I've seen, the Nook (from Barnes & Noble) looks like a winner.

Here's a nice list from Wikipedia with the different files the readers can handle: List of e-book readers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

get the kindle! My parents bought me the kindle for x-mas this year ( haha i opened my presents a couple of weeks early) and its awesome! Amazon has a bunch of books thats free in their kindle store and plus some of the new york bestsellers are under 10 bucks. It's def. worth the investment.

I have a Sony Reader and love it. I used to have a Nook for a couple weeks but I returned it because the PDF capabilities were terrible and it wasn't very intuitive to me. It was IMPOSSIBLE to read the PDFs I was assigned for classes with the Nook. I don't know if their Nook Color has improved the PDF or not...

The Sony Reader is fabulous - I have the newest version of the pocket edition (PRS-350) and it's touch screen, has good ability to read PDFs, borrow from my local library, etc. I think the regular size of the same model, I think it's the PRS-650 but I'm not 100%, would be better though, because the screen size is larger. Mine is fine, though... I HIGHLY recommend it! I did a ton of shopping around and this was my final choice.

    Thank you for the information!

We bought a Nook, but the Amazon Kindle is also very nice.
