sororities/fraternities

Hi! I'm an incoming freshman and I was hoping someone could give me some insight on the stereotypes of each sorority? and on greek life in general?

You might find Furman's panhellenic website a good starting point for research. It has links to the individual chapter websites, as well as FAQ about recruitment and Greek life. You will want to form your own opinions about the chapters...remember that you are looking for the right match for you.

Hi, my D joined a sorority last year and is extremely happy that she was invited by her first choice. There are 6 to choose from and you will, during your second semester, be introduced to each of them in detail. However, you will have some introductions during family weekend as well as an opportunity to get a flavor of each from the friendships you may form. Some of your new friends may have been friends with others that are now in a sorority when they were in HS and that will give you an intro. Sorority girls are not suppose to "friend" you before initiation so you will not really get to know the sisters well, so don't count on that. But, I understand that many times the sororities choose "cliques" of girls so that transition for them is easier. Hope this helps a bit. I am sure you will find the sorority that fits your personality. good luck
