Hi I was applying to GMS but then I started thinking I don't really have any leadership positions. I do have community service and other extracurriculars (but no sports another down side) and I have good grades but I don't have any title roles in anything.
Can leadership roles apply to other things like in family or community service?

Depending on the tasks, I think it could apply to family. Definitely community service though, especially if you're the one who's organizing the events, or has an important role. You should still apply regardless, you don't want to be thinking: "what if...?"
i'm EXACTLY the same as californiangal. i have everything..ish.... except leadership positions. BUT i'm also conflicted whether i should continue with this application at all. they emphasize careers in the fields of computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health and science. i want to do visual effects/animator/motion media graphics. would they even bat an eyelash at me??

It never hurts to try. I know of two seniors from last year that got the gates and their majoring in international studies and music so i feel there welcome to a range of majors appicants are intrested in. I think those your looking at is if you want to continue with them through graduate school.
