Competitive NJ School. Specialized business program
My transcript

im going to ED to GW, but the problem is, i dont know if applying to the business school will hurt my chances. business is eventually what i want to study, but would it be better for my admissions chances to apply to their columbian college of arts and sciences? the bottom line is, i just flat out want to get into GWU.

I talked to two regional admission officers. One of them said, they evaluate and admit separately for each college. The other one said, there is no such thing: all applicants are treated as one pool, and changing majors is VERY easy and there is no restriction.

I tend to believe the later one (who said there is no college specific admission). This one has been around for a while. The fist guy who said evaluation and admission is separate was COMPLETELY clueless about other questions I had and even said FLAT OUT WRONG things that are inconsistent with the information on their own web site. Also he just started on his job, so perhaps that explains it.

Since my kid is not applying this year, I did not bother to follow up to see which one is correct.

Call the admission office at the school and ask then this question. If applicants are all pooled into a single pool, then it really does NOT matter which major or school you are interested.

When you do find out, please share it with us.

Hi, I was accepted to GW last year and work in admissions this year. Both counselors were correct in a way.

Because some of the 5 undergraduate colleges at GW are more competitive than others the admissions office does take into account which school you apply to, although they are NOT completely separate pools, rather it is just one factor influences your acceptance.

DO NOT apply to a school because you think it will be easier to get in. Although it is rather painless to switch schools once you are here, if you do not like the school you get into you may not have the necessary grades to transfer to the school you actually want to be in.
