My chances?

I'm not really sure about this university at all, I'd love to visit it and see what it's like. What are my chances??

GPA UW: 3.6-3.7
GPA W: 4.3-4.4
( A lame excuse for my drop in grades would probably be that I moved in between semesters of junior year. Yeah I know, I still should have done better)

6 honors classes Freshman year
8 honors sophomore year
9 (kind of, pretty much 8 1/2) junior year

APs:
AP Bio- 5
AP Chem- probably a 3 or 4
AP US- 5
AP English Language- 4
AP US Gov't- 4
AP Microeconomics- probably 5
AP Macroeconomics- probably 4 or 5
AP Human Geography- mostly likely 5
AP Environmental Science- most likely 5
AP Statistics- most likely 5

Going for 7 tests next year.

Senior year:
Dual enroll: Philosophy, English, European History, plus 3 more second semester
Math and Science Center: AP Calc BC, Organic and Bio Chem, AP Physics C

When I transferred I got accepted to a small, private math and science center that's pretty well known by the top universities. Next year I'm just dual enrolling at a university for half the day and going to the math center.

ACT: 31, going for 32 or 33
SAT II (predicted): US History: 760+ Bio- 780-800 Math 2: 710 (will retake for a 750+)

ECs: Band- section leader since 7th grade. Jazz Band, University band, Civic Band in the university/community. State honors band 2 years (moved out of state so I couldn't do it again) State S/E since 8th grade, NHS 2nd year next year, volunteered at the hospital 70 hours plus going for 150+ hours at Habitat for Humanity this summer, Science Olympiad 3 years,

yeah not much in the EC department, I hope that's okay though.

Essay: Not sure, I've got some good ideas. Will probably get the help of an english professor this fall.
Recommendations: again, since I just moved here this will be difficult. I could use my bio teacher of 2 years but that was when I was younger.

I'm not sure if there's anything else really.

Well, I'm not sure what to make of your chances. On one hand, your curriculum is extremely strong, but, on the other, your grades in that hard schedule are not stellar whatsoever. Your service is a strong asset and is something that Georgetown values highly. Also, the scores that you have are acceptable and your predicted SAT II scores would be great. You will certainly need great essays regardless of all other factors, and you should prepare yourself well for the interview. I encourage you to learn more about Georgetown- you'll be happy with what you find. Good luck!

Yeah I know, I've gotten a lot of B's at the beginning of junior year. It's very bad...

Your GPA is not a deal-breaker: they won't throw your application away because of it. However, it will certainly be a liability.

What is your class rank? That's more indicative of work quality than GPA.

15 (down to 23 actually) out of 380

And at my new school, I'm not sure what's going on with it, it's horribly bad. But we have totally different curriculums and my old school was more competitive so I'm sure it's easier to pull off a higher GPA at the new school. (maybe) I know that my old school was ranked higher nationally.

It's actually been freaking me out that it's so low. But I'm planning on sending in two transcripts and maybe having a note or something explaining the situation from my guidance counselor.

Also, will they look at first semester senior year? My GPA's been going up since I settled down here so hopefully it will follow the trend.

Upward trends are good, that's for sure. Definitely have your guidance counselor explain your situation in his/her report. Whatever you do, don't stress over it too much. What's done is done- it cannot be changed now. And, yes, they will look at the first semester of your senior year for regular decision. Obviously, they would not see those grades before making Early Action decisions.

Hopefully your AP Scores are what you predicted. The Extra-Curriculars will MOST CERTAINLY be a hindrance. Community Activism is very fundamental for Georgetown. They love to see people who are active in their community and are involved in their school. Regardless of moving, you still should have clubs and activities. This year, take advantage of them-- but, don't just join to have joined. Make sure to make a commitment to them and show that you are passionate.
