I was denied admission to Georgetown college when I applied regular decision. Here is my transcript when I applied.

I'm a white male and I live in Illinois
I have ADHD, clinical depression, and anxiety
During highschool my medications were switched around frequently, and coupled with the traqnsfer to a private school where i knew no one from a public hurt my freshman and sophmore grades. My junior year i was switched to a new medicine which has been working for me, which is when i took my tests, I'm now in my senior year

I go to the university of chicago Laboratory schools and applying to the Georgetown college

SATII math 1 790, SATII Lit 710, SATII Bio Ecology 730
I'm a national merit finalist, ACT-34, 32 math, 33 eng, 36 writ, 36 sci, 12/12 essay

I have a sister who is a sophmore at Georgetown college

I have excellent essays, good reccs, and a good interview. I've taken several AP classes but only one AP test, Bio, 5

I'm an alterserver, a pending eagle scout, I've worked at a homeless shelter for 3 years where i volunteer weekly during the cold seasons
I'm also an active scouter as I've mentioned above, i've been in scouting since 1st grade
I am also an assisstant scoutmaster
ALso part of a literary mag at my school

i did flaf ftball freshman year, choir soph, and a couple clubs junior and senior.

This may I'm gonna be working at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute shadowing a genetics research investigator

I talked in my essay about going into the field of genetic research. I also got a reccomendation from my bio eacher, priest, AP history teacher, and Homeless shelt coordinator
I also take the course load right below the highest


The reson I am appelaing is because of the aforementioned ADHD problem and my counselors inadequate notation of it. inaddition, a few months after sending in my application, I was named a national merit Finalist. I amsending in an appeal detailing my medication problem

to what degree did your conseoulor give "inadequate notation"? The merits of your appeal turn on this point.

Yeah, I've heard from admissions officers that appeals don't work UNLESS there was basically a huge screw up with your file. The example given was like your HS sending basically the wrong transcript but with your name on it. I'm certainly sympathetic to your situation and it's great that you were basically able to turn your life around but don't keep your hopes up.

My counselor mentioned thaat I had adhd and had some problems fitting it and some medication problems, but she didn't go in deth to talk about how one year I was overmedicated to the point of sedation, which made impaired my ability to concentrate worse than normal adhd (i was given over twice the average dosage of a medication.
) this was after they discovered midway through freshman year (through a psychiatric examination carried out at the university of chicago hospital) that the medication i had been using before had virtually no effect. Then sophmore you they took the same medication down to well below the reccomended dosage and gave me anti depression medication which combined worsened my hyperactivity and gave me anxiety attacks often, some f which I ahd to be removed from school, until junior year when they gave me the normal dose and removed the anti depressants and my grades jumped from bs and cs to all As, I'm getting a recocmendation from my educational therapist and my adhd dr. explaining the medication. I've also been named a national merit finalist if that has any weight.

Hey Pat,

If I've ever heard of a legitimate reason to appeal, this would be it.
I think the additional info from your therapist and doctor would have a lot of weight. I agree with the above poster, though, in that everything hinges on what the initial counselor left out.
Don't give up. Do you think your sister could put you in contact with anyone who could help you? I wouldn't even know where to begin for an appeal process.

totally relate to your proplem. i've dealt w/anxiety and depression my jr. and sr. years, with my grades def going down this year. i got waitlisted at gtown, but i've still got my fingers crossed. i wish all the best to you! hopefully there will come a day when mental health issues can be dealt with in a more open and informed way(i had a big dilema over whether to mention it due to the dip in my mid-year report. i ended up disclosing the info, idk if it hurt of helped)
