FAFSA and financial aid confusion?

Hey, so I was accepted to Georgetown early action and today they sent me an email letting me know that I need to fill out FAFSA and CSS by February 1st and they want the copies of parents income tax returns. My parents don't get their W2's and information until the last week of January and it's completely possible that they might not get it until January 30th. This would give us two days to do both these forms and we'd still be cutting it really close. Is that right? Like is that how its generally done?

I'm really confused since I've never done this, and my parents say that we can give predictions earlier. They also said that for my older brother the deadline was March 1st. How exactly am I supposed to do this? Can someone explain the process or is it this rushed for everyone?

No worries. Simply ask your parents to complete the FAFSA and Profile form on line with best estimates. Sign up for pin # first at fafsa.ed.gov (one for you and one parent only ... they may have one already if they processed a FAFSA for your older brother).

When Georgetown says they want your tax returns, they mean ASAP after you initially fill out the FAFSA and Profile. Complete your 1040 forms by February 28 and send copies directly to college with W-2's (or IDOC which is a service some colleges subscribe to) and you will be fine.

There are plenty of other postings regarding the FA process. You can look at the past ones I have done to this topic as a start.

Best wishes for college affordability success.
