When we arrive in August, we'll need to hit the stores to pick up a few things. Can any current students help us incoming students on the locations of Walmart, Target, Container Store, and Ikea? We will have a car. Thanks!

Unfortunately, there are not any of those stores near Gtown, the closest place, linens n' things is in Pentagon City, but if you want cheap, go to ikea at Potomac Mills outlet, there are other outlet stores that can be helpful too. This will only work if you have a car though. If you don't Pentagon city is your best bet.

Actually..there is a Container Store less than five miles from campus, just up on Wisconsin Ave.

Umm....I live in Northern Virginia so I know about the DC area. I know for a fact that there is no Walmart inside the beltway. Potomac Mills, Skyline, Springfield Mall etc all have Target but Metro doesn't go there. There are a couple of Walmarts in Alexandria. The best outlets are in Leesburg. The best place to shop is Tysons Corner, most exclusive placeto shop is Tysons II....across from Tysons I (they have good restaurants too....Cheesecake Factory and P.F. Chang).
Georgetown itself is pretty hip and chic too...esp M Street and stuff. You can take Metro to Bethesda, that's a nice place to shop too.

    Hope that helps :)

this is the only reason why I am not very happy about the prospect of going to Georgetown. I mean I live here, I know this area in and out, I would really like a change. Georgetown is just 12 mins drive from my house (in rush hour it can take over an hour, traffic here is BAD!). My parents are very happy at the idea of being a Metro ride away. I do love DC, i like Georgetown (I mean the neighborhood) and the college is awesome too. It's just that I want a change for college.

But I guess I will end up applying (and probabbly going) anyways.
