I just wanted to make this post to connect those who will be applying during the 2012-2013 school year. Possibly, this thread will help us get to know each other and help each outher out when it comes down to application time!

Be sure to post on the Hispanic forum over at "Specialty Admissions" Topics. There is a thread set up for Hispanic students for the class of 2017. We share a lot of good information over there. Hispanic Students - College Confidential
Valentina De La Fe is in charge of Hispanic Recruitment at GT in the Admissions Office. My DD and I are excited to visit GT next week and will meet with Ms. De La Fe. We are hoping they have merit scholarships to offer out of state students.
Good luck to the Class of 2017. GT looks like a wonderful school.
I am a recently admitted freshman. I will tell you that there are some OOS merit scholarships, they are few and far between.
The only one's the OOS students can apply for from Tech that really make a difference are the Presidential and Provost scholarships.
The Presidential Scholarship covers a full-ride please stipends for study abroad. This is offered to both in state and OOS. About 60 students received this award.
The other is the Provost award, which allows OOS students to pay in-state tution rates. About 40 students receive this award.
So in the current freshman class of 2650 students, 100 students received any merit aid from Tech.
GT is a great school, just a very expensive school for us OOS kids.
Good luck to you all. I'll be a freshman at tech this year and I'm really excited. I didn't have the greatest stats in the world but I had some pretty good extracurriculars and (not trying to brag or anything) I think I did REALLY well on my essays. I worked on those things night and day and got five or six different english teachers' to help me with them. And make sure you don't slack off second semester. I'm not gonna lie, my senior year was by far the most fun out of all my years in high school but you gotta make sure you maintain decent grades. I graduated with two c+'s senior year (my first ever c) and I haven't been rescinded so I think I got really really lucky. Uhh, try to apply early before everyone else does. Go for the November deadline if you can. I think that helped me get in. Since tech was my #1, I had my decision ready by december while a lot of my friends were stressing all the way to april. Again good luck to you all and have fun this year!
One thing that I learned during our visit at Ga Tech is that they only charge in-state tuition if you go abroad at their France campus. So you tuition bill goes from $20k+ down to $7K. Also with the co-op program you are not charged tuition while you are on it but will have some income coming in. This income could possibly help in paying your tuition. We also learned that more scholarships are offered to students starting sophomore year. Corporations will give the school money for scholarships which GA Tech then distributes but such scholarships are only given after freshman year. Good luck.
FraNeighbor I'm also applying for Aerospace EA =D...I'm an Egyptian - American Living in Egypt currently. Hopefully if we're both accepted it would be great to get to know you!!
