Social life??

I've read that Goucher is home to a lot of quirky students- which I like. I was just wondering if someone could tell about their experiences. I'm kind of concerned about the disproportionate male/female ratio, I feel like if it's that high- why not just go to an all girls school? I like boys. I need some around.
As I'm researching schools I keep coming back to Goucher, so I just want to get a little more info.
Also would anyone be able to tell me about the communications program there (I'm not sure what they call it- Media Studies?).
Thank you in advance!

Hi Shannon!
Firstly, I'm so excited to hear that you're interested in Goucher! I'm currently a senior French major and I LOVE my school

Quirky is definitely a good way to describe the students- there are certainly a LOT of unique and fascinating people on campus. This makes for a very free sort of atmosphere, where people aren't really afraid of being judged or categorized because we all have our own little "quirks."
As far as males/females, it is true that it's a bit disproportionate, but I personally have never felt uncomfortable because of it. There ARE guys here, it's just more likely than not that your classes will have more women in them than men. So it is noticeable, but never so severe that you feel like you're at an all girls school.

We have a great communications program here. I'm currently taking my first Com course- The Environment, Consumerism and the Media I believe it's called. It's really exciting I would definitely contact the head of the department if you have specific questions or just want to get a better feel for the department: The website Goucher College: Communications and Media Studies Department Description and Shirley Peroutka is the chair: speroutk@goucher.edu
Shirley is my professor and she is fantastic!! Very vibrant and full of facts and is always excited to teach us new things. She can probably give you some students to contact who are majoring in communications, if you are interested.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have more questions!

Do the girls go to lots of parties in neighboring schools if interested in dating?

@Swimjames

Obviously there is not a one size fits all answer to your question-

However, the fact that there are MANY other colleges and universities within 30 minutes of Goucher's campus allows each student plenty of options in regards to dating, classes, events, speakers, friends, internship opportunities, etc. Of course, any student may choose to go to parties elsewhere, as well.

There are certainly women and men that date other Goucher students, while many students come to school in a relationship with someone from home. Others have found partners at local jobs, events, organizations in the Baltimore area, and certainly in classes in which students are enrolled at other colleges.

Basically: your options are limitless!
