the new test is on a total different percentile than the old one..this really ****ed me off..
a 5 on the writing is 92nd percentile
a 150 on the math is now the 43rd percentile and not 54 like it used to be
a 159 in writing is now in the 80th percentile.
I THINK THIS TEST IS BULL.
I had a 4.0 as an undergraduate in my major, a 3.79 overall, and a 3.87 as a graduate student while I was working.
on the old scale I would have gotten a 1220....I'm quite ****ed.. Their little "practice tesT" from ETS' booklet and cd said I would be getting a 1420... BS!!!

Hey everyone,
I'm a rising junior looking to go to grad school in either molecular biology or neuroscience. I took the GRE today, but at 8 AM - and, due to various unfortunate circumstances, I only got about 3 hours of sleep the night before. Didn't do as well as I hoped (or as well as my powerprep practice scores were showing)!
According to my 'unofficial' score report, I got a 167 V/165Q. I know this isn't a 'bad' score, but I'm wondering if it's worth retaking, since I've got a fair amount of time until I start applying (~a year).
I'll hopefully be looking at fairly strong programs, and my other credentials should be reasonably strong. Any advice about whether or not a retake is worth it would be much appreciated. Aside from admissions, I'm also wondering about things like NIH fellowships - are GRE scores important there, and would a higher one help me?
Thanks!

| GRE score
I got a 158 verbal (570~580 in the old scale) and a 162 quantitative (770~780 in the old scale). Is that adequate for a top 20 electrical engineering phD? I have a 3.7 GPA.
Thanks,
Nathan

Can anyone let me know if I should retake? I'm looking to apply to multiple Master of Engineering and Management programs, such as Duke's, Dartmouth's, etc.
Quant: 161
Verbal: 155
I'm a Biomedical Engineer major, 3.4 GPA, strong recs, research experience and internships with major companies.

Hello,
I'm an international student. I took the revised GRE, landed up with a low verbal score. I got 152 (53 percentile, 490 on the old scale.)
I want to apply to a Master's course in Computer Science.
Do you think my verbal score will hurt my application? I have a decent quant score (163) and AW score. (4.5)
I have a good undergrad GPA and have worked pretty hard on the other aspects of my application. But I'm just really, really worried about my low verbal score.
I want to apply to top 30 schools.
Will a decent AW score offset my low verbal score? Or should I consider applying lower ranked schools based on my verbal scores?
I'm really, really worried/confused. Any kind of help will be appreciated.

| GRE subject biology score: should I report or not?
Hi, everyone.
Couple of my prospective graduate school recommended subject score,
and rest of them were optional.
I got 87% percentile score on biology.
Still wondering if it's a good idea to report my subjet score or not.
Way over 90% would have left me no question but 87% is something in-between.
Any clear advices? Thanks.

Hi everyone,
I am interested in applying to a Masters program in International Relations/Affairs/Development (the name varies depending on the school). In 2010 I received my B.A. in Sociology from the University of Michigan, with a GPA of 3.1. I have been working for a non-profit organization for the past two years. I believe I can get good recommendations from professors and my employer. My GRE scores were: 158V, 154Q and a 4 for the essay.
What schools do you recommend, or which do I have a good chance?
Thank you.

You would have no reason to retake. Those scores are competitive for engineers going to the top schools. Take a look at the scores to the specific program your applying to. Biomed average is 149 quant.

I'm applying for MS bioengineering with a 3.34 cum GPA (3.6 major GPA). My GRE is 165 (795) Q, 160 (605) V, and 3.5 AW. I did my undergrad in bioengineering at Berkeley.
Should I retake for the low writing score? I want to apply to top MS programs (Stanford, Berkeley, Georgia Tech, Duke, etc.)

Nobody cares about the writing score. If they want to know about your writing, they'll read your writing samples. As long as it's not a 1.5, you'll be fine.
