Probably depends on the program, but at least in the sciences/engineering, you'd be considered overdressed if you wore a tie. No tennis shoes/sneakers, slacks (or even non-blue jeans), long sleeves and a belt should be sufficient, unless this is a business program or something.
By the way, I don't usually correct grammar, but seeing as there's a good chance that you could make the same mistake in person, the singular of alumni is alumnus (or alumna, if female).
